No Sunday shopping in Nova Scotia say voters.
Not sure where you stand on this Doc. Personally I'm pretty disappointed.

I voted against it, Riley. I agreed with the Green Party’s position on it – environmentally regressive and to the detriment of the rural economy. I also think it would have been to the detriment of retail workers and, long term, probably would have worked against small and/or locally owned retail establishments. It seems to me that the impetus for this was really coming from the big box retailers, who want a 24-7 retail environment. Aside from concerns about the workers, 24-7 is probably what I’m most resistant to on this question. I like the idea that there’s at least one day – I couldn’t care less whether it’s Sunday or Thursday – that’s not organized around COMMERCE, COMMERCE, COMMERCE.

Montréal"s four largest malls have decided to open all day Sunday (they couldn't open until 12h00) and every night of the week. My guess is they think the more hours people have to shop, the more money they will spend in the stores in their malls instead of going to the "upscale" Wal Mart ... Québec city store owners refused to let malls do the same and only agreed to open at 10h00 on Sunday. In the long run, I'm sure the large surfaces will get what they want : 24/7/365 ...

I’m surprised NS voted for that. Take the church attendance equation out & it’s kind of regressive. I can’t remember living in a place in at least the last 15 years that didn’t have Sunday shopping. What brought this on? To be honest when I lived in HFX I can’t remember if they had it or not. That was around 84-86. On that note I’m personally 110% against opening on major hols i.e. Easter, Xmas, Thanks G & the like. People should not be put in a position of family traditional times or work. I’m also against opening on Remberance Day, I feel it’s the least we could do.

Your are right about the “big box” though. If I were to chart shopping hours in this burg there would be a clear line between hour extension shortly after WalMart opened. Clear line HA! It would glow [glow=blue,2,300]neon[/glow]
