Christ almighty Beadz! That was a semi-rhetorical observation on my part.
At least he didn't say bagel, which would have required me to come up with some sort of not so clever hole in the middle of Jesus Package euphemism.

Hears Tammy Wynette playing softly in a flat in England somewhere...
'....stand by yer ma-a-an....'[/sub] ~ One hell of an interesting album here! Some truly incredible crossover rock en espanol songs just whompin' the FUCK out the rhythmic firmament.....but a LOT of it seems truly toned down to 'compete' in a U.S. market. Especially when compared to the relative insanity(in terms of real creativity)of a Cafe Tacuba....there's even parts traditional Tejano, Norteno and then there's the rock element throwing some Santana and Los Lobos-esque (tho tasty) guitar squonkin'....but THEN with the infusion of some wild horn and timbales-driven clave-salsa music to which I just CAN'T sit still. The only drawback I see here is some rap/hip-hop thrown a bit awkwardly into this whole thing which further convinces me that there's some contrivance to this exercise....that their trying for that commercial success by trying to hit a LOT of different hot buttons without making any one stand out too much, for fear of throwing some of their public off the scent..... Bottom line is they sound like they're having a hell of a good time....and cut #8 is simply irresistable(Dejame en Paz)to the point that during a live show, this song's GOT TO completely bring down the house.

That Sparta any good for someone who can't stand Sparta for all the usual reasons?
Picked up new Libertines and Bjork today. Listened to most of Libertines in the car, no precise verdict yet. Bjork will be heard tomorrow, most likely.

Only 'cos "Trying Your Luck" is my song of the week, for reasons I can't fathom, much less explain.

Riley, you heard Half Smiles of the Decomposed yet? Not yet Rocky. I was thinking of running out at lunch to look for it. One review made it sound like it's all over the place. Like they're going out the way they came in. Have you heard it?

That UK release cover for Is This It? is 100 times better than the shit North American release artwork.

"Hard to Explain", "New York City Cops" and "Trying Your Luck" are my favourite three versions of the one song on this album.
What about the second album? I've yet to hear it. Did they find another song, or is it eleven more takes of the song on Is This It?

I would say there are subtle differences Jesus, but certainly not like they decided to make say a Massive Attack record or anything like that.
It's curious to me that they parted ways with Nigel Godrich of Radiohead fame, before going back to the drawing board for that second release. Personally I would have been interested to see just how different a record they might have made with him. My sense is it would have stretched the boys a bit more, but maybe they just weren't, and won't be ready, to branch out too awfully far.

I agree. I was going to buy the album just out of curiosity when I first heard Godrich was on board. Then they ditched him.
What they should do next is come up with some really delicate interplay between the two guitars, some subtle melodies... then get Steve Albini on board to bury it all in one bloody awful muddy mess. What a fucking hack.
