There is a certain amount of hair splitting when comparing Arcade Fire, BSS, Stars, or New Pornogrpahers. Throw in the Weakerthans, you could probably call that the top 5 on most days, and on any one of those days, any of those bands are top of heap.
I still think BSS are the best. They make the biggest most interesting noise most often, with the biggest splash.

Can I just say it? I don't care for BSS. To be honest, I don't get the hype. There. I feel better now. And Stars is still better than both BSS AND Arcade Fire.  You need to hurry up and move back to Northern Ontario luv. Clearly all that Toronto smog is starting to cloud your judgement and the constant city buzz is impairing your hearing. Yeah, didn't think you'd like that.  I just... I don't know. I don't really know what to say about them, because it's not that I DISlike them. It's not like I hear them and cringe. I just don't care, and to me that's worse. Being ambivalent about a band is the kiss of death as far as I'm concerned... if a band doesn't excite me (positively OR negatively), then I'm pretty much done. And it's weird because I know I really "should" dig BSS - just as I "should" dig Velvet Underground and Radiohead. But I don't. |

BTW I'm with the Stars fanbase they shoud have been in the last round Arcade Fire are on the brink of greatness just not yet (kinda like UNC was this year)

Neither band excites me consistently, but I do recognise BSS have undisputed moments of genius and offer something just about unique. The New Pornographers songs I really like are catchy and pleasant enough, but I'm not sure they offer anything extraordinary enough to be crowned best of a nation.
