WOW, patten! Damn good idea! I'll put in my two cents on this even though this website is the only place in the world where I feel like such an amatuer concerning good rock music I've actually heard before. Unfortunately the Veterans are the only ones I can vote for cuz theirs is the only list where I know the majority of the bands. But some of these I would certainly love to put my two cents in on:
1 U2 - best band EVER along with Floyd and Zeppelin - will NEVER be able to pick between those 3 which is the best band ever. NEVER, I tell you. So certainly my pick between these two that it's an absolute joke to me that they're competing here.
16 Modest Mouse - Not familiar with much of their catalogue but since my best friend is reaaaaaally into 'em I've heard quite a bit and sadly on really like a very few of their songs. Can't really get into the vocals is why. Although I do like them on some songs.
8 Oasis - Not familiar with anything other than what was played on the radio. Didn't really like that stuff, but my curiosity about them has grown from these message boards alone. At the moment, since that's all I've heard, I really don't get it(the infatuation).
9 Flaming Lips - So, that being said, I'll certainly give this one to the Lips. I really dig just about all I've heard from them, especially The Soft Bulletin.
5 Tool - Love AEnima but that's all I'm familiar with. I had a copy of it burned as well as Lateralus which I only listened to all the way through once before, like an idiot, I gave it away.
12 The Cure - I guess I'm going to have to give this one to The Cure for sentimental reasons even though I'm not NEAR as familiar with their catalogue as just about everyone voting. Phil probably knows more of their stuff than me.
4 Wilco - Of course I'm going to pick them since I'm absolutely certain that if I listened to every song Primal Scream ever wrote 5 times over there would be no comparison whatsoever. I don't know if I've even heard them before so how can I say this? I have an idea of what their sound is like somehow, from people talking about 'em, and I know that that style of music isn't even close to Wilco's style for me. However, if I'm completely wrong about them and should give them a listen first, hopefully someone will let me know.
13 Primal Scream
6 Pearl Jam - This one goes to Pearl Jam but not by a long shot at all.
11 Red Hot Chili Peppers - I know BSSM like the back of my hand and can play alot of it on guitar. One of my favorite albums ever. It's certainly their best but Ten is even better to me. "Warped" is the greatest Chili Peppers song EVAAA but the only Navarro Chili Peppers song I'll even listen to. In other words, Frusciante has certainly been involved in the absolute best Peppers music. But "Indifference" by Pearl Jam is a whole galaxy better, to me, than "Warped." I guess the kind of emotional music that grabs your gut is my favorite kind.
3 Green Day - Hate 'em. Never liked 'em and probably never will.
14 Super Furry Animals - Don't think I've heard a single song from 'em so how can I vote for 'em? Please someone tell me ONE song I can download from 'em so I can put them above sucky Green Day. Please.
7 Sonic Youth - This one is no contest at all. Sonic Youth all the way, baby. One of my top 10 bands.
10 Depeche Mode - Here we go again. This time with Depeche Mode. Not really familiar with anything but their radio stuff which might be strange since I'm so familiar with most all of Sonic Youth which is much more underground. But I'm still certain I'll never like them as much as SY because SY is too much my style for Depeche Mode. Someone tell me: How much better does Depeche Mode get than "Enjoy the Silence"? And please don't answer that question if you don't like that song. I love it so much that I couldn't relate to that opinion at all.
2 Radiohead - Best band around today. How could I not vote for them above anybody except for U2 out of these choices?
15 Sleater-Kinney - Dig Me Out is all I've ever heard from them and I really dig it. But up against Radiohead? That's like comparing that new Vault drink to Mountain Dew. Mountain Dew, of course, representing Radiohead. That sounds weird doesn't it? For the record, Mountain Dew is the shiznit. Currently and thankfully, my only addiction. But I'll admit, I'm helplessly addicted. How did I get on this subject? Oh well.
Um, did I say " 'em " enough in that post? ;D
