Having to vote against the Cure but for SFA? Cruel.
I haven't heard any Sonic Youth since Daydream Nation, so I flipped a coin on that vote.

I am not a huge MM fan by any stretch, nor do I think they are a better overall band than U2...but to say that U2 has been better then MM since 1998 is just pretty damn wrong. I think you have to factor in more than record-making. Ken H. is right, I really, really don’t like either ATYCLB or HDTAAB. If you rope the new bits on the two "Best Of" collections, I haven’t been on side with many of the decisions U2 have made recording-wise since – coincidentally – 1998. However, I’d still rate them as a performing rock band. They remain one of the best groups in the world in that category. I’ve even heard some of what I consider the worst of their recent material partially redeemed in a live setting.

And I think that might be fair, but it would have to assume that U2 live redeems them to the point that they are better than Modest Mouse, who's put out "The Moon & Antarctica" as well as "Good News For People Who Love Bad News" since '98. And I can't see that.

Again it's just my opinion here but M&A is merely a good album and GNFPWLBN has as much crap as it does good songs...I just don't see why everyone thinks MM is so great, I do however understand why people still love U2.

Good News I don’t know. M&A I'd give a few points for effort but I can’t say I really like the record.

Final stop on the whistlestop brackets tour:
Veterans
1 Modest Mouse (by default of hating them a tiny bit less than U2) 9 Flaming Lips
12 The Cure 4 Wilco
6 Pearl Jam (evil evil bracket!) 14 Super Furry Animals
10 Depeche Mode 2 Radiohead
Gah - didn't like that one.

Modest Mouse is the best band on on this list. Lonesome Crowded West and M&A blow away everything U2's done since War.

Lonesome Crowded West and M&A blow away everything U2's done since War. Correct. Thank you. What fucking took you so long to show up and set the record straight.

Talking about Dallas and posting pictures of myself in a cowboy hat funneling beer. Oh, and work.
It did need to be said, though.

I have eased up on U2 slightly over the last 4-5 years however, to include The Unforgettable Fire in the bracket of their best work. I used to be firm on the line including War, but truth be told, TUF is U2 at their absolute best.

Well but see the flaw in that statement is that War isn't that great and U2's best period was the next three albums...so Modest Mouse is better then October? Well yeah, my farts are better then Boy & October. Modest Mouse haven't done anything better then Actung Baby which I recognise is pre-98 but I still mantain that ATYCLB is as good as anything in the MM disography.

I wouldn't mind seeing either Sonic Youth or Pearl Jam win this bracket.
What are y'alls opinions regarding Sleater Kinney, and their recent album the Woods?

War is the best U2 album. Everything after is passionless douchebaggery.
