Sadly, once you've reach the top, there is no other way but down ... !
Not that many bands makes it to the top though but once you're there, be prepared to be cut down to size ...
Nature of the beast I guess ...

Has their ever been a time when U2 wasn't pompous arena rock? Even in the club days those guys thought they were the greatest band ever, Bono's always been a fucking rock star who knew more then you. They've always written retreads until they felt they got it right. October is a rewrite of Boy, War is a rewrite of October...U2 has always sounded more important then they've ever actually been but they have managed a few honestly great albums... Hard to argue with any of this. This is a post I can get behind and sign up to, after snipping the last comment about ATYCLB.

I don't think U2 was ever that good, not to merit mention in a best of all time discussion...not that everything that DED said isn't true...just that a lot of bands have put out "a few honestly great albums" and no one seems to lose their shit about them like they lose it to U2.
Still, War is pretty fucking good.

Hope my votes were counted for this one, unlike the U.S. thread...if not, then Tool got robbed!
I seriously cannot fucking believe that The Cure beat them out. What an upset.
8 Oasis 4 Wilco
6 Pearl Jam 7 Sonic Youth
With Tool gone, I'm not sure how Radiohead can lose this whole thing, unless PJ upsets them here. No one in any of the other brackets is gonna beat whoever takes this one.

I'm in shock on Tool. In fact, I might go home and take my ball with me.

It's embarassing for this whole site that TOOL are gone. I like to think that we as a collective know more than just about anyone when it comes to music. Today, I'm not sure anymore. Oh well. We'll carry on without the best band in the world in the game If Radiohead gets knocked out I'm never fucking speaking to any of you again, I swear. 8 Oasis (7-6) 12 The Cure (7-6) 14 Super Furry Animals (9-4) 2 Radiohead (10-3)

It's embarassing for this whole site that TOOL are gone. What did the Cure do of note between '98 and now? That's the real bitter pill here. The Cure peaked in 1991 people!!! After that they became shit. Oh well.

I think that's my real issue with this bracket, is it really only serves to allow people to vote for their favorites regardless of the strength of their post 1998 output, and in lieu of having to think too critically about 100% 2000 abd after newbies. I mean Tool and Radiohead are my favorite bands, but describing their impact 1998 and after as sparse is relatively fair. No slight on the game, or Patten's idea (still really enjoying this man). These players just sort of tilt the balance of the other three brackets a bit.
U2 have already gotten way too far.
