Another crappy album by a good band is 'Percy' by the Kinks.
Now this is a soundtrack for a crappy movie about a penis transplant; yes I said penis transplant! There are about 2 good songs on it (Dreams, God's Children), the rest is b-side, thrown together filler. Also, the Kinks threw this one together to fulfill their contract w/ Pye. After the success of Lola, the Kinks were in a position to shop labels for the best deal and they wound up w/ RCA. So although 'Percy' isn't a proper album, it is only recommended for completest/nerds like me.

I much prefer "NYC Ghost and Flowers" to the banal "Murray Street". It sounded like Thurston had a bunch of things he wanted to do for a solo record that got turned into a SY record instead. The only two songs I can do is the "Karen Revisited" and the "Sympathy for the Strawberry". I think the rest of it is just boring.

I haven't heard enough Sonic Youth to vote intelligently for their worst record. But the Beatles ... yeah, Beatles For Sale has to be the worst LP the Fab Four released during their proper recording career (i.e. from their signing w/EMI through the release of Let It Be). MMT is actually one that I would place easily in the top half of Beatles albums ... it's as least as good as Sgt. Pepper!
I have a sick fondness for It's Hard, largely b/c it came out during my senior year of high school and I fell in love w/the title track and Eminence Front (w/really is a classic Who track). I can listen to It's Hard and not lose my lunch, but I can't make it through the entirety of Face Dances ... it's just a bad record. Bad. Though not as bad as David Live, for those keeping score at home ...

Seriously, did the Beatles ever really put out a good record? Hippies still smell guys, come on! 2 down, 2 to go.

You guys are nuts...there's a coupla weak-er tunes, mainly the Perkins covers(tho I honestly like 'Honey Don't') and 'Kansas City', but then - No Reply, 8 Days A Week and the absolutely sublime cover of 'Words Of Love' - plus I personally love 'Mr Moonlight' for the idiosyncratic Lennon vocal stretching himself every which way.
~
In 1975, when it came out...ALL of my friends and I were convinced that Physical Grafitti was 'the end' for Zeppelin...that all their drugged to the gills, Crowley-idolizing had landed them in rock and roll HELL.
And I mean 'Hell' basically because it seemed that they'd lost the will to 'rawk'...we were all 'WTF is THIS?' ...their success and their circumstances and their money made them fucking desert us!
As much as I've heard you guy (mostly) praising that set, naw, I don't see it at all...and goes back right to those days where they broke their string of music that seemed made for 'us'.

IMO NYC Ghosts And Flowers is easily one of SY's worst albums...that and Experimental Jet Set etc...I'd rank Murray Street as one of their best though...

Funny, those two are ranked high on my list while "Murray Street" goes right to the bottom for me. I used to say I hadn't heard a SY record I didn't like until I heard "Murray Street". I know I'm in the minority on this one, but sheesh.........I just can't get into it. Now the record after that is quite compelling and I also think that the new one that is about to drop will be the best since "Sister".

Oh definitely not, it's quite a good album, which speaks volumes about how good the Beatles catalog is. It's just that when you look at the run from Please, Please Me through Let It Be, this is the weakest record of the bunch. The next closest would probably have to be Let It Be, IMHO. But damn, talking about the "worst" proper Beatles LP is damning which ever record you choose with faint praise. Most aspiring rockers would give their eye teeth to cut a record on the level of Beatles For Sale or Let It Be. But Mr. Moonlight is the single most annoying cut in the entire Beatles catalog, bar none. And I'm not the only one who feels this way (I hope!). And every Led Zepellin record sucks. Each and every one. Pretentious wankers, that lot. Bonham could wack the skins, but Plant and Paige just bug the hell out of me.

I don't think 'For Sale' is a bad record either; like Ken said, it goes to show how good they were when that's their worst album. As for MMT, I actually listen to that more than Sgt. Peppers, for whatever that's worth.

Zep is all about Jonesy and Bonham for me. The best rythm section in rock and roll history. Plant is terrible singer but he is one of the greatest front men ever and Page can play the hell out of a guitar but they're nothing without JPJ and Bonham.

I agree w/ you about EJST&NS, I like that album a lot; "Androgynous Mind" is awesome! Whens the last time you listened to 'Murray St.'? 'Sonic Nurse' IMO was a better album than 'Murray St', but I really like both. I'm looking forward to the new one, and seeing them live again.
