This board is dedicated to those songs that, while they don't usually make anyone's canon of "Best Damn Song In The World Dammit) list, hold a special place in your heart. So please, not a hundred rehashes of "Born To Run", "Stairway", or "Freebird." You don't have to be obscure. But don't be predictable, either.

With that:
Dire Straits - Your Latest Trick
I can't not listen to this when it comes on, and I own it on about three different albums/cds. It's all about the sax, and the total sadness it conveys. Your Latest Trick is probably one of my favorite Dire Straits songs, and would be my favorite were it not for Brothers in Arms, which is one of my top ten rock songs ever (full disclosure).

Men At Work- Overkill
I really love this song. Honestly, Colin Hay's a good writter if you can get past how 80's the production and arragments are. Overkill kicks ass anyway.

The Lemonheads - "If I Could Talk I'd Tell You"
This was actually a single from Car Button Cloth, when they were sort of on the way down. Truth be told, I think the album was almost the equivalent to an Evan Dando solo effort under the Lemonheads brand. I own the disc, but I'm really pretty unfamiliar with it. None the less, this song always makes me smile. It makes me think of my wife (wife to be at the time) and I unpacking our stuff the first day we moved into our first apartment in downtown Hali. This song goes on and I automatically break into a standard McCartney head bob.

Tenderfoot is the best song on Car Button Cloth. Try to find the acoustic version.

I was really amazed at how much I liked some of his later acoustic versions of MAW songs. Always meant to look more into his solo stuff.... ~~~~~~~~~~ My own off top of my head: "Baby Blue" - Badfinger -- perfect pop that also draws a sadness out of me

Go Your Own Way - Fleetwood Mac
The best darn break-up song I've ever heard & a slice of MOR-pop perfection.

Off The Wall - Michael Jackson
I don't even know if it needs explaining.

You've managed to pick out the only two Dire Straits songs I really, really like in just one post. Well played. The Aeroplane Flies High - Smashing Pumpkins Never gonna make any 'best of' lists, not least because it's a B-side. But Corgan's best guitar work, imo.

I rocked out Mike Watt's "Piss Bottle Man" this weekend and I have to say, wow, what an incredible song.

Violent Femmes - American Music
Everytime I hear this song, I'm 18 again. Skipping class on those warm spring days to drive to the beach with my three best girlfriends, blaring the Femmes and eating french fries from the best joint in town. Sitting on the hood of the car and smoking cigarettes at the beach, then skinnydipping where the lifeguard couldn't see us and driving back to school sitting on towels. Sigh.
