I have a friend who is a serious musician (guitar) who said if he could have any drummer in the world of his choice for his band, he would choose Bun E. Carlos. I thought the idea was novel if nothing, but then I started listening much closer. Even as a well established Cheap Trick fan, I don't know that I've ever apprecaited what a fan a completely steady and reliabale drummer this guys is. I think I was always more fixated on how odd he looked with Rick placed between the two pretty boys (Robin & Tom). So yeah. If you're starting a band and not looking for flash, but solid fills and rolls, subtley placed against steady and reliable beats, Bun E. Carlos is the man.

Bun E. is great. Exactly the kind of drummer I'd want in my band. Peart can stay in Rush.

Peart's amazing, but Bun E. would work well with way more types of bands.

Great rock drummers aren't flashy. It's a myth.

It's about fuckin time someone started this thread!
Anyway, my brother lives in Rockford, IL, home of the Trick, where Bun and a couple other of the guys still live. He told me that Bun went and donated an ass-load of his music collection to the library system there. So there's probably a couple thousand discs in the Rockford Public Library that have a little sticker of Bun's head that say "The Bun E. Carlos Collection." He's been burning the shit out of a lot of it, old Move stuff and the like.
And that's my Bun E. Carlos story.

He's one of my top 5 favorite drummers of all-time..."Southern Girls" is the perfection.
