I guess I was just looking for someone to make a decent argument as to why rock is superior to rap, dance, whatever. You know, because I think that line of reasoning is ludicrous.

rock is superior to dance, for the same reason that scissors beat paper. ("in Ahnold-voice"): *CRRUUUSH* ;D

That line of thinking is ludicrous, its by no means logical, and has no basis in reality. Its kinda like asking for scientific proof of creationism or something, you know? There are some people who still fly that flag, and then there's most of humanity, who thinks they're all uneducated nutcases.

I know. I was just kinda hoping for something, you know. But anyone who might claim that, oh, the Fallout Boy album is better than Illmatic because one is rock and rock is superior loses a lot of credibility here.

See, this is the last time this thread made sense, on page 6. From there, we got into some sort of discussion on how rock is a more physical activity than laying down track with a laptop (which means nothing). I am still trying to get the justification on how the rock aesthetic is better than others. Whether its better or not, is for you to decide. No one can tell you whether it is better or not. I can give you my opinion--if that's what you are asking for.

NO! We're asking you, because you're the guy that is throwing all of the definitions and the claim that you know what "rockjism" is. You are the one that is defining yourself as a rockist and you are the one that is giving the impression that you know all that there is about rock. I have noticed that you have failed to answer kMc's and serveral of my questions because your arguments are full of holes.
I can't read this thread anymore......I swear it's going to give me a heart attack.

Nice post, Thorn ... though I have less of a problem with critical ideology, I agree with your basic point (which is, I think) that no single critical perspective is sufficient to account for all music. Nuts -- love that Bloom County strip ... makes me smile every time I see it. Behold the power of the tuba: it makes Opus still manly even though he's wearing tights and makeup. Tubas rock. LOL!!...I was a huge fan of Bloom County and haven't thought of that strip in years...I had about 3 Bloom County books....very very funny!!!

You haven't answered WHY the rock aesthetic is better.
