btw, my Miles download was just as fast as any YSI download. I suppose d/l speeds depend on traffic etc. I'm listening to it right now. Some good shit on it. When Miles was good, he was brilliant.
Oh, and in YSI's defense, my problem with that site has never been downloading, just uploading.

Here's disc two of the Complete Jack Johnson Sessions: www.sendspace.com/file/i5l2wfA reminder: these discs aren't sequenced for listenability or flow or anything like that. They have many, many different takes on the same grooves, etc., programmed one right after the other. Listening to this stuff straight through is an exercise in tedium -- though it can also be fascinating. I've gotten the biggest rewards from this set from hitting "shuffle," whether it's on my iPod or in the cd changer. But there is some serious black magic hidden in some of these grooves.

Phil -- I think you are just gonna LOVE the Jack Johnson box. John McL.'s guitar work on this thing is just phenomenal -- nothing short of a force of nature. And eventually (I think it's on disc four and then disc five) you get both a rough mix of Yesternow and the other official Jack Johnson piece, and then the actual released versions. It's (for me anyway) nothing short of mind-blowing to hear how these sound collages came about. This is one of Miles' most challenging and off-putting recordings, and the box (for me anyway) is ultimately nothing short of revelatory.

Ken, why are the first few tracks named after Willie Nelson? Is he playing on them, or did he just supply Miles and the band with the weed?

Oh, and in YSI's defense, my problem with that site has never been downloading, just uploading. Yeah, that's the big problem I was having -- it just didn't want to upload the Miles stuff. Don't know why, as that's the first time it has just refused to take the files. Anyway, sendspace doesn't seem to be having any problem pulling 'em up into the ether, so that's where they're going to be, at least so long as the internet gods declare them to be "active." ;D

Here's the final volume of the Complete Jack Johnson Sessions: www.sendspace.com/file/d0huejI see that two people have d/l'd the first two volumes ... hopefully a few more folks will take advantage of this opportunity. Mary, Ryo, and especially ThoRny and Sisy should all find this fascinating -- as will glenn and Don. So fire up those modems!

I just uploaded the first two Big Star albums, and Sorry Ma Forgot to Take Out the Trash for Ken, and all 4 official Velvet Underground live albums for weeping. If anyone else wants links let me know.
For some reason I'm paranoid about just posting the links. It's stupid, but it's the way I am, dammit.
