Ryosuke...I really like Quruli...a couple songs don't quite do it for me but one sounds very much like RHCP and another like Stone Roses!!...interestingly Ryo, these days I don't think much about lyrics.......I think it's the creeping age syndrome!...whereas in preteens to late twenties/early thirties lyrics/messages by beatles/bowie/lou/steely dan/replacement/midnight oil/costello/clash/graham parker, etc etc etc might have held some significance for me, nowadays I don't pay much heed to the lyrics (though I will admit, pouting self-indulgent, self-absorbed lyrics send me a scampering away!) this is my long-winded way of saying that I found it didn't matter what language Qurili were singing...more it was the music and tonal inflection (i.,e the emotive feeling) that I was more inclined to............ interesting change as I age!!! Haha, I never noticed that about the water. Bow - I hope you like it. That mix was intended towards people who have indie rock tastes. I'm gradually starting to move away from that type of music, although the appearance of another band who are as good as Quruli (seriously, the indie rock scene in Japan is horrendously boring right now) might pull me right back.

Bow, I could see the Roses on some of the songs, but I thought you must be nuts for comparing Quruli to RHCP. But then I looked at the track listing to see which song it could be, and realized it's probably "Hometown." That does sound like RHCP (some of their poppier, more recent material) now that you mention it. Honestly, I never noticed it before! It figures that someone who's totally unfamiliar with the band would hear the music for what it is. I know the band's history, so in a strange way you're probably in a better position to make neutral observations like that.
I'm finding that lyrics are becoming less important for me too as I grow older, though I think it's partly because I probably listen to more instrumental music these days than music with vocals...

i definitely dug quruli too, ryo. their production showed the effort they put into their work, whether it was the layered echoplexed guitar work here and there...or whether the nearly beach boys/turtles harmonies that 4-5 of their songs had. a couple of songs had them trying stuff that sounded unfinished sorta...unrealized ideas. off an odds and ends sort of album maybe? stylistically this best of covered a bit of ground...i'm currious a wide a time period the individual albums were from...
the sheryl crow is fucking WONderful. multi-layered production showing off all the voices that crow has in her singing...and having seen her live a couple of times, i know that she's got an excellent lead player with her, sort of her mike campbell figure IF you give what she does a chance rather than sloughing her off as a madonna wannabe.
plus this is SUCH an unprecedented and unique opportunity to hear those crow songs before fm radio plays them into the ground.
liam finn i still haven't thoroughly played.
thanks kool.
thanks ryo....

www.sendspace.com/file/lixauxEveryone should give this a shot, even if it's just for the first track "I Can't Escape Myself". If you don't like that one song, get yer head checked. This is a 2002 remaster of the album, with a bonus 4-track live EP tagged on the end of it. Oh, and if you have no idea what kind of music these guys made, give allmusicguide's bio a quick read. According to them, they're a cross between Joy Division and Echo and the Bunnymen.
