Black Sabbath - Black Sabbath (but haven't listened to that since the early 70s!!) Pearl Jam - Vs Radiohead - The Bends David Bowie - Scary Monsters (and Super Creeps)--not a weak song in the batch Neil Young - After the Gold Rush Bruce Springsteen - use to say 'darkness on the edge of town' but after listeining again to "The Rising" this weekend that gets a very close nod Beach Boys - Pet Sounds (that's the only I have!!)

You can't be serious about those post-Pet Sounds records, Mantis. Unlistenable messes is more like it. Of course, I'm not wild about any of the Beach Boys output, really, so I'm probably not the best person to comment on them. Mike Love bugs the hell out of me ... not to Morrison or Morrissey levels, but he's plenty annoying. I hate Mike Love too but I'm totally serious about those post Pet Sounds albums. Seriously listen to Surf's Up...just that song by itself is better then VU's entire catalog.

Lou Reed -- New York (Bow's right, this is a stellar record). Nirvana -- In Utero (not a pleasant or easy listen, but brilliant). The Clash -- London Calling (though the UK debut and Sandinista! are nearly as good) Blondie -- Again, another singles band, which means that their latest Greatest Hits disc is probably their best. Iggy Pop -- Lust for Life (hard to argue with this). Steely Dan -- Katy Lied, or anything else from before they became so serious and arty, back when they sounded like a rock and roll band. Fleetwood Mac -- Rumours (Bow is nuts, FM hit their peak after Lindsey and Stevie joined, and then all the relationships in the band fell apart ... Go Your Own Way was one of the very best rock singles of the seventies). U2 -- Achtung, Baby! Replacements -- Tim (I feel like I should be able to make a case for one of their other albums, and Pleased to Meet Me is certainly in the same league, as is Let It Be, but this really is the best 'mats record). The Doors -- they all suck, the band never released a listenable record.

Sabbath - my mood today goes towards Sabbath Bloody Sabbath....came close to just wanting to give a shout out for Heaven & Hell too, but.... Pearl Jam - no opinion Radiohead - nod goes to The Bends Bowie - ahhhh,,,,,Heroes perhaps Neil - not a straight album, but the Decade set is just flawless IMO.... Springsteen - Darkness On The Edge Of Town beats out B2R in my book. Beach Boys - who????
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Lou Reed - wouldn't even want to answer until I own his entire catalog! Blue Mask is great..... Nirvana - no opinion The Clash - no opinion Blondie - Koo Koo ....just kidding - no opinion Iggy Pop - Fun fuckin' House! Solo-wise, erhhh,,,,,, Steely Dan - Can't Buy A Thrill Fleetwood Mac - while I can recognize Rumours excellent capture of the Buckingham/Nicks moment of magic, I'm down with Mantis' pic of Pious Bird Of Good Omen. U2 - fuuuckkkk....followed them since Boy, gave up as the 90's hit, then regroup with them a couple albums back....War for oldskool / ATYCLB for later work. Replacements - Pleased To Meet Me The Doors - hell, Weird Scene Inside The Gold Mine gets ya what you need....IF you need it. If not get the debut.
Black Sabbath -- n/a Pearl Jam -- No Code and Vitalogy are almost equal Radiohead -- Hail to the Thief is just slightly better than OK David Bowie -- Space Oddity and I'm really not sure why Neil Young -- Harvest Bruce Springsteen -- with the E Street Band - Born to Run without the tightest band on Earth - Nebraska Beach Boys - Pet Sounds and that's about all you really need Lou Reed -- Blue Mask New York is really good, but I like Blue Mask better Nirvana -- In Utero The Clash -- London Calling Blondie -- even their singles sucked Iggy Pop -- Lust for Life Steely Dan -- n/a Fleetwood Mac -- Rumours and I can't think of anything else I really even liked U2 -- Achtung Replacements -- Tim and I must say I'm a little surprised to see so many votes for this one and Pleased to Meet Me over Let it Be. Tim is definitely their finest, but for years I've thought I was one of few who believed that. I could probably listen to this album every day and lose no love for it. The Doors -- no
more:
Dylan - aside from the obviously great Dylan records, I have been infatuated with Nashville Skyline since it first met my ears. Blood on the Tracks follows by a nose.
Pavement - Crooked Rain Crooked Rain because they're probably my absolute favorite band and I, most likely blindly, love everything they did. But this was undoubtedly their best.
Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds - No More Shall We Part was his best Cohen achievement, for me anyway, and though, in retrospect Let Love In is maaaaaybe better, No More Shall We Part is just too damn poetic to not be his best sorry Mary
Elvis Costello - This Year's Model
Faith No More - Angel Dust
Mr. Bungle - California
Fugazi - The Argument
Peter Gabriel - III (Melt) hard sometimes to argue this one over II or So, even, because it's so clearly his finest work. Games Without Frontiers? Biko? Far more gems here than any other Gabriel-associated release.
Tom Petty - Damn the Torpedoes 'cause...torpedoes are fuckers. And I hate 'em. And it's good. Damn good. Damn it.
solo Beatle - Plastic Ono Band...though All Things Must Pass is so fantastic, it deserves mention as well.
Fuzz, have you heard either No Code or Avocado? Both are top notch my friend. No and yes. Here's my Pearl Jam history: Like everyone else in 1992, I had Ten. I liked it enough. When Vs. came out it bored the pants off me, so much so that I didn't like Ten anymore. Yield was the last one that came out that I paid any attention to at all, and I didn't like it either. So I basically gave up on them, moved on to greener pastures. Fast forward to maybe 2-3 years ago, I decide to give them another go, buy Vitalogy. It's just alright, doesn't really set my world on fire or anything. Then I hear everyone hee raving about the new one, download it, and it's more of the same. Just doesn't really do anything for me. In general, the musicianship is pretty good, but I can't really get past Ed's vox. PJ is just middle of the road for me. To be honest, I'm kinda surprised you haven't asked me about them before, seeing as how I never post on the PJ board or talk about them at all. That's fair...I reckoned you weren't a big fan since you never post on the PJ thread...For some reason that band just hits an emotional chord w/ me that few other bands do, maybe Wilco as well...but even the Kinks don't hit me on an emotional level like Pearl Jam does. Anyway, I have lots of friends here who feel the same way as you...Actually most people I know think Pearl Jam has some amazing songs, but not solid albums; ala Vitalogy. Half of it is some of Pearl Jam's best work (IMO), and half is filler crap. Pearl Jam, at least for me, is kind of a 'grower' band. I mean it's taken me 6 years to fully appreciate Binaural, and it took a solid 2 years for me to warm up to No Code....anyway, after Riot Act I was dissapointed, and bumped Wilco ahead of PJ on my personal favorites, but after hearing the new album, I am reminded of why I love Pearl Jam so much. Have you heard the following songs? In My Tree, Who You Are, Hail Hail, Off He Goes, Black Red Yellow, Marker In The Sand, Sad, Fatal, State Of Love & Trust, and Immortality? IMHO, those are some of Pearl Jam's absolute best.
