Have you heard the following songs? In My Tree, Who You Are, Hail Hail, Off He Goes, Black Red Yellow, Marker In The Sand, Sad, Fatal, State Of Love & Trust, and Immortality? IMHO, those are some of Pearl Jam's absolute best. No, no, no, no, no, yes, no, no, love it, yes. Sounds like you need to hear No Code and some of Lost Dogs..... Don't know what you'll think of No Code....Ken could give you a much better review than I can *nudges Ken on the arm for a small review*, but it's a pretty interesting album. There are a few weak songs, but overall it's nothing like anything Pearl Jam had done before...All the signs of aggression that were on vitalogy are gone, and what's left is a somber, reflective album. Plus it's the first proper album w/ the mighty Jack Irons on drums (he drummed on Mirror Ball, and one song on Vitalogy). He definitley brought a new flavor to the band, and probably helped keep them together when they were on the verge of breaking up (some may view this as a bad thing). Anyway, to quote a former Ken review on the album "it was a revalation to my ears". Who knew Pearl Jam was capable of such work? Not I. As for Avocado, too bad you don't like it....I think some of the rockers (Life Wasted, Marker In The Sand, Comatose, Severed Hand, and Unemployable) are among Pearl Jam's best work to date....The ballads IMO, ain't too shabby either (Gone, Come Back, Parachutes), and the experimental tracks (Inside Job, Army Reserve) have grown on me.

It's not that I "don't like" Pearl Jam, they just don't really excite me. There are some songs I really like (State of blabla, Spin the Black Circle) but other than that, meh. But I will DL No Code and give it a try.

But when No Code came out. . . I had to give in. Not only do I consider it hands -down the best Pearl Jam album, but (naturally) - - I believe it to be one of the greatest rock records ever recorded, period.

Woah. I had no idea this last had expanded so much! Black Sabbath - ummmmm..... can I cheat and go with We Sold Our Soul for Rock n Roll? I just think some bands are better served by greatest hits collections. And Sabbath is definitely one of 'em. Pearl Jam - dunno, I haven't listened to them since Vs.. While I was in Iowa, my friend actually played Ten in this car - I looooooooooved this album in high school and had very fond memories of it, but I have to confess it sounded like shit. I was shocked. It did not age well. Radiohead - dunno, never really caught on with me David Bowie - Scary Monsters (this always changes for me) Neil Young - no clue Lou Reed--- New YorkNirvana-- NevermindThe Clash-- London CallingBlondie--- Parallel LinesIggy Pop--dunno his solo stuff very well.... once again, I like Nude and Rude, his greatest hits album! Fleetwood Mac---no clue Replacements-- Pleased to Meet MeBob Dylan - Blood on the TracksPavement - no clue Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds - Let Love inElvis Costello - This Year's ModelFaith No More - Angel DustMr. Bungle - Disco VolanteFugazi - RepeaterPeter Gabriel - no clue Tom Petty - no clue Tom Waits- Rain DogsLeonard Cohen- unfortunately I don't know his albums, just his singles... Sonic youth- Daydream NationPhew. Cheers, M

Mary, you're right, Ten (sound/production wise) has not aged well...IMO the songs still hold up....If you ever get a chance, you should check out No Code....Ken, Thorns, Severed Proud and I all give that one very high priases...If I ever get a new computer perhaps I can make you a mix of some lesser known Pearl Jam songs; you may be pleasantly surprised...
