I'm a newbie to this endeavor but oh well. We've been having a bit of trouble deciding on the next theme on the mix CD swap thread, so I thought perhaps a poll like this might be good in giving an idea of what everybody wants. In the end it's Rocky's call, so if he wants to ignore the poll results and go with "songs written by castrated sex offenders" there's no stopping him (though I'll have to opt out of that one), but I thought this might help him reach a decision. The answer options list some of the ideas that were thrown about. I wasn't able to list them all due to format constraints, so I took the liberty of making some arbitrary choices - hope nobody minds. If your preferred theme isn't on there, then vote "other" and specify in your post.

Songs longer than 8 minutes! That'd make my job easy!

Nah, you don't have to defer to me for the final decision. I originally organized the first swap, but it's not like I own it or anything. The whole idea was for people to share the music they love with each other, so everyone might as well have a say in it.
I vote love songs, just to be different.

dammit I'm equally torn between Locals and Live..... I'm afraid the Locals CD I'd do would have to be very blues heavy as that's the scene I've followed most (not to mention my #1 bar I catch the acts in is orientated to Jazz & Blues...built back in the 1800's, it's a cool little nook to escape to). Doing a CD featuring nothing but Live cuts by various bands would be interesting and challenging to perhaps to put together so that it flowed well.... Fuck it....maybe I'll pick Other and create "Zamfir's Acid Daze Covers"

Doing a CD featuring nothing but Live cuts by various bands would be interesting and challenging to perhaps to put together so that it flowed well.... Yeah, I was actually thinking about that. Most live albums are set up so that the track begins when the band starts playing, so a live cut mix could lead to bizarre situations where the singer introduces the next song, only to be followed by a totally different act.

I'm sure both of you could do a "Best of the South" mix if there isn't enough good music in your local city/state. And if that fails, I guess you could do a "Best of US" mix. And if you can't make a decent mix out of that, then you need help! I'd be down with a live mix too, which seems to have the most votes so far. But, I might have to ask Rocky to arrange so that I won't draw luke, because I think you've actually heard a lot of the stuff I intend to put on there (Blankey Jet City, Ajico, Mayumi Kojima, Number Girl, Soul Flower Union). Sorry luke, maybe next time

So I guess we're doing a live mix? Do you want to start soliciting participants and draw names, Rocky? I'm in.

Send somebody a CD. Basically Rocky will throw your name in a hat, you get a mix, you send somebody a mix. I've yet to receive a single mix. Think patten's just got lost in the mail, though.

Not a single one? Who was supposed to send you the other one? Holzman?
Should we do this all here, or should the pairings get sorted out on the other Mix CD board?
