I got Cuba on remastered CD a while back. They're usually pretty easy to find around here, as the two main guys came out of this area back in the day. I have to figure out a way to get the vinyl converted to digital so I save it to my computer, then I'll post some of their songs--unless I could bother you to post a song or two from Cuba... ...Another album that I've been listening to lately that it seems like hardly anyone knows about is Twelve Dreams of Dr. Sardonicus by Spirit released in 1970. Are you familar with it? Here's their most famous cut from it called 'Nature's way": www.yousendit.com/transfer.php?action=download&ufid=C7BD25C23684E077The guitarist from Spirit, Randy California, was only 15 when he started played in Jimmy Hendrix(then called Jimmy James) band in 1966. Hendrix asked California to tour the UK with him, but California was too young, so Hendrix went on and set the world on fire while California started the band Spirit with his stepdad Ed Cassidy(who was nearly 30 years older than him).

Yeah, the Silos were great - used to have "the Silos" on cassette, back in the day - and I also used to have that SPIRIT album on vinyl. Another great rockin blues band from SPIRIT's era was TEN YEARS AFTER. Their guitarist Alvin Lee was insane on that fret

Dr Sardonicus is 'little known'?
The poll was among whom, 12 year olds?

Well, I had that same thought of sorts too Doc......hell, most of my circle of friends had that album (I've got it on lp, cassette, & CD). But that's the thing here that different 'generations' (*groan* on that word) are sometimes only exposed to certain time segments of music and don't look back and discover such treasures as Sardonicus. Hell, it took me 25 years to hear a great deal of Funkadelic and that shit was all out when I was in my listening teen years --- I just didn't tap into it!

The thing about Dr. Sardonicus is that it's a forgotten classic. Honestly, before you read about it on this thread when is the last time you've heard anyone say anything about it? It's nearly 40 years old now and has nto been placed in that pantheon of immediately-referenced Rock albums. Which is unfortunate, because it truly is a masterpiece...

I don't think there's any search engine for this site specific but I know Spirit and Sardonicus has been brought up now and then if only in mentioned on "What Are You Listening To" board. For us who were on with the album in the 70's, it's surely not 'forgotten' but it IS a jewel to be discovered by many a younger music fan!

I give Dr. Sardonicus a spin every so often and it is always refreshing. I discovered something yesterday that was pretty amazing. When I was a kid in Indiana, my best friend became the guitar player for a local band of some reknown called Goliath. I was only just picking up the guitar to learn at that time. I actually roadied for them for a while, driving their truck and helping load. I also became friends with the lead singer, Jim Kitchen. They had released an album a few years earlier that didn't really do anything, though the title track was a regional hit for them and got quite a bit of airplay. Now, it seems that the album is becoming something of a cult classic, particularly in Europe. I've done some searching and found a lot of activity about this record. It was re-released on CD in 2004 and apparently again in 2006. That is amazing in and of itself. I still have a first pressing on vinyl that I will be hanging on to! I'll bet there are very few in existance! I called Jim a few years ago, after I saw that those albums were bringing over $30 online with collectors. He has found Jesus and is doing a lawn care business in Terre Haute. Probably a good thing, because the nose candy had really destroyed his and the bands chances, at the time when they had a chance at the 'bigtime.' I'll have to call Jim and see if he is getting anything from ASCAP with these re-releases. The album is Hot Rock and Thunder. I didn't include some of the screen shots because my screen shot program is having a hard time keeping the things readable at smaller sizes and they were stretching the board as captured. The last one stretched it some anyhow. Sorry! You can always just do a Google of "Hot Rock and Thunder" for yourself! A few things that are kind of funny: Yeah, "Southern Rock feel"... They're from Indiana. "5-piece progressive hard rock outfit from Kentucky" - Nope, just cut the record there. Note the "customer review" at the end of that last one - that's my KayJay, and she took a few liberties but basically stated it right. Freak Emporium edited their description accordingly. I'm not actually her husband; poetic license was used for brevity, of course. Heh! To coin Mary's trademark phrase, Cheers

hmmm... and how, exactly, did you "discover" this, Jeff? Oh, now I remember! I emailed you about it after I found it on the Net, while you were at work! Great investigative skills there, Buddy! Oh, and by the way... You said "Note the 'customer review' at the end of that last one - that's my KayJay, and she took a few liberties but basically stated it right. Freak Emporium edited their description accordingly. I'm not actually her husband; poetic license was used for brevity, of course." Well just for shits and grins, perhaps some don't know that you and "your KayJay" have lived together for 5 1/2 years AS man an wife, and the state of Alabama DOES recognize me as your wife - common law marriage, you know. Poetic license my eye!
"Heh! To coin Mary's trademark phrase,
Cheers"

Hi, Don! Yep, I'm back. hahaha! Until my account gets deleted, I suppose. It's good to see you, too! How have you been? I sure have missed all my old friends. What with the house, the cat, Jeff, garden, ailing mother, kids, grandkids, and genealogy research, I just haven't had much time to invade Jeff's territory. Life's a bitch, ain't it? ha!
