Riley, that album cover is positively ugly. With any luck, I'll draw you in the mix CD swap project and you'll hopefully have something better than Loudness to list (though if you want anything, I'll be happy to send you stuff irregardless of the mix swap).

One of my old housemates, back when I was living with him, was given a big stack of records by a neighbor of his parents. Stuff that had been left years earlier by their kids when they moved out. One of them was a record by Loudness (not that one though). The pictures of those dudes were absolutely ridiculous, even for a hair metal band. Unfortunately the record was all warped so we couldn't really listen to it. I think it was this album:

Detroit - The White Stripes (as a local, I'm being picky about the Stooges being from Ypsi/Ann Arbor) Boston - The Pixies/Mission of Burma Seattle - Soundgarden St.Paul/Minneapolis - Hüsker Dü/The Replacements Montreal - Arcade Fire Liverpool - Beatles St.Louis - Uncle Tupelo Sydney - AC/DC, for lack of knowledge of other Sydney bands

Detroit – Mitch Ryder and the Detroit Wheels (Devil With a Blue Dress was one of the first songs I ever went nuts for as a kid…) Boston – Pixies Seattle – Soundgarden St. Paul/Minneapolis – Good call on The Jayhawks. Tempted to say Prince and the Revolution, though, if it had been more of an equal partnership... Montreal – Stars Liverpool – Pretty hard to argue with the Fab Four on this one but I want to say China Crisis or something, just to buck the inevitability of it all. St. Louis – Uncle Tupelo, I guess Sydney – The Church

Currently:
USA – The Coral Sea would probably be my favourite in the last year and a bit... Canada – Stars England – Muse Scotland – With the demise of the Delgados and a new Primal Scream album that's doing precisely nothing for me, not sure who I'd pick in this category right now... Wales – Probably still the Manics Ireland – U2, though I am way offside with their work since the turn of the century. Luka Bloom is probably my favourite Irish artist (as opposed to band) of the moment. France – Indochine Germany – Tour de France Soundtracks didn't do it for me the way I would have hoped but I guess I can still get behind Kraftwerk on this one… Sweden – Cardigans Australia – The Dirty Three Japan – My knowledge is too limited by far, YMO having inconveniently split about the time Ronald Reagan was starting his second term... Really liked the Mayumi Kojima disc Ryosuke sent me, though she's a she and not a band. Which, yeah, reminds me....

In the meantime, he's welcome to my (rather limited still) Soulseek stash. Been looking for an excuse to make him listen to a couple tracks, namely BJC's "Salinger" and Supercar's "Lucky", anyway. No way you won't like this stuff, 'dog, unless you just can't get past the language barrier at all.

Just one of the many reasons why I love Drum. Tomoko had two twin sons - Hiroshi and Takashi. Their father had left Tomoko when it was found out that she was pregnant with them, and though they barely scraped by on Tomoko's meager salary as a barmaid, there was so much love in the house that no one could doubt that they were a happy family. And then one day... Hiroshi: Mom, I got a perfect score on the math quiz today! Tomoko: Oh. How nice. Takashi: Mom, I got a perfect score on the math quit today! Tomoko: Wonderful, Takashi! Here, come over here and let me give you a kiss. I am so proud of you! That was the incident from which the lives of the two boys, who until then had thought that they were loved equally by their mother, diverged. Takashi continued to excel at school, eventually graduating from Tokyo University with top marks to begin work at the Tokyo arm of Morgan Stanley, earning annual salaries in the tens of millions of yen. However, Hiroshi, who had similarly excelled at school up to that point, simply gave up, knowing that he will never earn the same love as his brother. He would drop out of high school, and after going through various dead-end jobs, find himself on the streets of seedy Kabuki-chou, Shinjuku, having sex with old ladies for money. I'll leave it up to you to decide what the moral of this story is, tunes
