VU and Nico is an artefact on a whole other level. it just opens up so many avenues (that have been pursued since). Most definately. This is the second sentence from the AMG review: "While it reportedly took over a decade for the album's sales to crack six figures, glam, punk, new wave, goth, noise, and nearly every other left-of-center rock movement owes an audible debt to this set." I think I agree with every bit of that. Alternative rock, in all its incarnations really began with that album. It's certainly not the sole influence, but probably the single most important one.

This is the sole reason I cannot get into Pink Floyd. I can hear the tunes, I can recognize the musical accomplishment....but they bore the crap out of me. I've tried to get past it, but I can't.

Speaking of Mr. Barrett. I actually did listen to PF for almost an entire weekend. I lost interest before writing anything about it. a few thoughts though.... 1. Barrett, I admit, is not completely unlistenable it is still mostly crap though. Which actually is more negetive then being unlistenable, becuase then you could at least argue that I just didn't get it. I get it and it sucks. 2. Rogers Waters era, however, is one I had not given enough credit to...still not great but better then I previous thought. 3. That being said The Final Cut is one of the worst albums I've ever heard. 4. Wish You Were Here is still by far the best album. 5. PF is still boring. yeah, i agree. Pink Floyd are a bit boring. Where did they go wrong? Not really sure, but i blame a kind of studied seriousness that they all got into. Barrett is king though, and an artist to boot. The Final Cut is one of the Waters albums i don't mind. Wish You Were Here is hard to get worked up about. It's a bit flat and dispiriting.

most of Pink Floyd's career has rung hollow to my ears. All that crap about The Wall or Animals being so haunting is nonsense. It's psychologically empty and dissappointingly superficial.
i took that to it's extreme and just wholeheartedly blamed Roger Waters, which may have been a bit unfair, since the problem is endemic to the band's mentality as a whole.
