And if you won't (or can't) edit yourself, then you need someone who will. The fact that Young never has it what makes him a second tier artist, IMHO. Well below Tom Petty, or even Wilco, IMHO. This is a man who's never heard some of the stuff in the archives. Wow, he's a guy for whom most of his unreleased stuff in unreleased for a reason. Though outside of the arguement against the Geffen stuff don't see where you're getting all this crap that should've been edited. I'm not saying everything's genius but there really isn't a ton of stinkers on the seventies or ninties albums.

Yuppies love Abba? Since when? I bet the only song they know is "Dancing Queen" and most of them probably think it's Blondie singing it.

Abba aren't so bad. Look me in the eye haters & tell me you don't shake yo ass when Waterloo comes on the jukebox. Yeah, thats right. Universal pop appeal. Mamma Mia is one of the most perfect pop songs I've heard.

I'm from the generation when Abba was turning all those songs into hits...I can well remember seeing them on The Midnight Special and American Bandstand. I would look you in the eye if I could, but since I can't you'll just have to trust me when I tell you that the only shaking my ass does when "Waterloo" comes on the jukebox is the necessary wiggling entailed in getting it up off of my seat, sauntering across the room to the jukebox and then kicking the damn thing until that dreadful song stops playing. I can honestly say that I have never heard an Abba song that I liked. I realize that makes me somewhat of an enigma as such things are concerned, and I'm not trying to be a jerk here (whether I'm succeeding or not, who knows)...I mean, even Mike Oldfield likes some Abba...I'm just being transparently honest. I hate Abba. Now, KC & the Sunshine Band I've got some respect for...

I love the Seventies is on VH1 right now, and this is the kind of show that makes me hate VH1 these days (as it seems like there are so many on that network that use the concept)... Don't get me wrong, I'd like nothing more than to see all those vintage clips, commercials, all that nostalgia from the 70's...really takes me back...but I CANNOT STAND all the incessant commentary/ragging from all their self-ordained comedians/pop-culture experts. The old clips are really funny enough without these bozos trying to milk the obvious even more (when they're not making their own little twists at "humor" about them). It's like that stupid "Best of the Web" show. The web clips are funny, usually. What's NEVER funny, however, is that big black guy they've got hosting it, with the excessive expletives being beeped out and his moronic laughter. Who watches this shit for more than 5 minutes? VH1 has scads of shows using those formats...
Okay...rant over, Carry on.

I hate television these days. It seems that the only thing that Americans can do is mean spirited humor at the expense of someone else. The British destroy us when it comes to comedy. VH1 is on my list of must destroy that I have in the top drawer at my desk. I cancelled my cable because I couldn't take it anymore. There isn't even a music channel anywhere in cable either, even with Digital Cable and MTV2 doing more regular shows like the regular MTV. When are these dildos gonna figure out that we just want videos?

At least some of the shows MTV used to have on were highly entertaining! Ah, countless nights paying close attention to Beavis and Butthead and The Maxx while I was still impressionable...
... *is interrupted by memories of their relentless plugging of that Hootie and the Blowfish video*...

Beavis: Hey, Butthead...How did Tom Petty get on TV? Butthead: Uh....becuase he's famous. Beavis: Yeah but how did he get famous? Butthead: Becuase he's on TV, dumbass. Beavis:Yeah, but how did he get on TV?...
On and on through the entire video. Classic. Genius.

Yeah. Great stuff!
As far as the original subject goes, I used to hold a hard grudge against Nine Inch Nails. To this day I only own a couple NIN albums (one of them being With Teeth, which I find to have its share of faults), but I occasionally crave tracks off of PHM... Something I Can Never Have in particular. For whatever reason I was hesitant to accept that Reznor had talent, figuring he was just playing with hormones for record sales. Go figure.

Now see, I myself heart NIN so much it's not even funny. Love 'em.

Probably my biggest mea culpa in recent memory ... Radiohead. I (still) don't think they're everything that their fans say, but I like 'em enough to own all their albums except Pablo Honey and Amnesiac, and will willingly admit that both OK Computer and Hail to the Thief are great albums. Radiohead are the most (oddly) compelling band of the last decade or so, and one of the few (maybe the only one, come to think of it) that have made records that are both challenging enough and rewarding enough to compel repeated listening even by the unconverted. If there is a center to the "serious rock" universe, Radiohead have pretty much held that spot since The Bends or so.

I love VH1. I can't stand that "I Love the 70s/80s/90s" garbage because it's mostly just people who don't love said generations and make fun of them. And I have no interest in modern celebrities whatsoever. But for the most part, when it comes to my favorite sleazy television network, it's VH1 by a mile. Best Week Ever and most of the Celebreality shows...gold. Not to mention the occasional countdowns of "awesomely bad songs" or metal or whatever. Usually pretty ignorant stuff, but fun as hell to watch.

I'll give Radiohead points for everything from The Bends through Amnesiac, but I insist Pablo Honey's a drag and that HTTT doesn't need to exist (I'd be fine if I never heard it again... it just doesn't move me in any direction, and that's arguably worse than just being bad). The streamless praise Yorke gets for everything he's ever made irks me. "OK Computer predicted the FUTURE!".
Needless to say, they'll be remembered well a good 25, 30 years from now.
That Band Reunited show would be wonderful if they actually attempted to bring back bands worth our while. Had no idea who the hell the Motels were beforehand, and... New Kids on the Block? ... Yeah, that'll boost the ratings.
