I was about to pop in here and say that we need to make sure that P.I.L. make this list, and Metal Box in particular, and look what's at the top of Skvor's (excellent, dare I say "definitive") list! Of course Crocodiles is Echo and the Bunnymen's best album, and I have to assume that he meant to include it instead of the hit and miss singles collection Songs to Learn and Sing.

Thanks, Ken.
Here lately I can't stop listening to "The Killing Moon". One of the greatest songs in history.

Excellent list mary. You Have Actually Heard of THE YOUNG MARBLE GIANTS? I love Young Marble Giants!!! I got into them because "Searching for Mr. Right" was included on a Rough Trade compilation I bought, and I was weirdly fascinated by that track. So I picked up Colossal Youth and that album is riveting. It's got to be one of the best examples of pop music minimalism I've ever heard - it worms its way into your brain. Cheers, M

Metal Urbain was a group of interchanging musicians in France that released records on the Crepuscle label, which was the French imprint of Factory Records. They were extremely influential in their sound and also went on to be in the band Metal Boys and !Malaria! (which is one of my personal favorites). Really good stuff that is worth checking out.
Tuxedomoon is a band from early 79 and on up San Francisco Bay Area scene that are truly amazing and highly original. Make yourself familiar with their early records, I swear you will not be disappointed.
Section 25 was a band that Ian Curtis from Joy Division helped get signed to Factory and helped produce their first record with Martin Hannett. They really brought alot more synths in that Joy Division-esque sound and were already playing with African and dance rhythems at around the same time as A Certain Ratio. They were an excellent band that also did some 12 inch collaborations when New Order was doing remix records in the early and mid 80s.

I remember seeing Tuxedomoon in the Ralph Records catalogues I used to get. Unfortunately I never ordered anything by them. ...I say that, but then I do remember ordering a 4-band EP and I think they were on there (with MX80 Sound and a couple more "rising stars"). I really liked the Ralph Records label. Anyone that would release all those excellent Residents albums and (especially) the weirdness of Renaldo & the Loaf was A-OK in my book. Skvor, have you ever heard the Residents Commercial Album? Each song is exactly 60 seconds and there are 60 on the album (30 to each side). Wild concept, but lots of nice sounds throughout. Any chance I can still get those Suicide CDs from you?

I haven't thought about it much, but I'm sure Joy Division' s two LPs would be at the top of my list.

Looking at the lists on the first page I am saddened that the Psychedelic Furs are not represented.

JAC, I can still send you those Suicide Disks. I totally have them burned, I just keep brainfarting on sending them to you. Duh, I'm a dork, man. Those will be out to you very soon with some other surprises as well.
I have heard "Commercial" and I think it's sheer genius. I think the Residents are one of those bands that comes along once in a lifetime just because of their genius and creative output. Great, great band and the new reissues of their stuff is just to die for, man.
I actually was a hair away of adding The Psychedelic Furs first album and the first Simple Minds first album to my list as both are just extremely good. They would have been 51 and 52 if the list had kept going. I just couldn't put them in my top 50.
