If you send him that one, he'll be turned off to them forever. Send him Room On Fire, which has been scientifically proven to be the Strokes true best album.

Thanks for answering my question, guys.
Once I've listened to 'em a few times, I'll let you know what the true "best Strokes album" is, and why it isn't as good as Whatever You Say ... ;D
BTW, Get Behind Me Satan is an awfully good record. I don't remember exactly what the argument over it was, but it's found a lot of favour with me.

I never said it wasn't good, it just isn't as good as the three albums before it.

You also said it was not as good as the Raconteurs album, which is wrong. Although I've been enjoying the Raconteurs quite a bit this week. But GBMS is better.

Yeah, it still isn't as good as the Raconteurs album.

I haven't said much against the Arctic Monkeys because I don't find them to be offensively bad or anything, so I didn't feel like poo pooing on what everyone else is digging. That's because you're mature, have respect for other people's opinion, and aren't generally a dickhead. However, I possess none of those qualities, so I poo-poo on them every chance I get. I don't even find them redeemable in a "not groundbreaking but fun" capacity. But I agree with Holzman on one thing. They're a really sad indicator of what the current state of affairs is like. It just seems so cynical to me - "bah, this is as good as we're gonna get, so might as well try to make the most of it." Which of course isn't true - there's so many great, contemporary bands out there.

Arctic Monkeys really aren't that bad. There are plenty of worse bands bands as well as plenty of better bands.

Arctic Monkeys really aren't that bad. There are plenty of worse bands bands as well as plenty of better bands. It's true. And one of those better bands is Coldplay.

Sure, but I actually like Coldplay too...at least the first two albums anyway.

Maybe there's something Freudian going on between me and the Arctic Monkeys that makes me hate them so. They sure do suck though.
And I agree that Coldplay are probably less worse than AM.

I don't particularly like the Arctic Monkeys, but I'm alright with them. Coldplay is just flat out boring though.
Why are we comparing the Arctic Monkeys and Coldplay?

Why are we comparing the Arctic Monkeys and Coldplay? Because they both suck, and one sucks less than the other.

God, most years I can pull together a top ten albums of the year, but honestly, this year I am going to struggle - just lack of financial opportunity to buy albums, being too busy to listen in the volumes that I used to listen in - albeit I am as dedicated as my time allows to my music listening (it's a passion, ya know!)
However, for what it's worth my best albums of this year would be...
1. The Church - Uninvited Like the Clouds 2. The Devin Townsend Band - Synchestra 3. Something For Kate - Desert Lights 4. Gerling - 4 5. Augie March - Moo You Bloody Choir 6. Tool - 10,000 Days 7. In Flames - Come Clarity
Ok, so I'd include the newset Pearl Jam if the copy I bought wasn't fucked from the moment I took it out of the store (curse you Wal - Mart) and there's Midnight Oil Live album and a new one by Bluebottle Kiss from Australia which I haven't yet got my hands on, so that would probably round out my top ten of this year gone by...

my bests of the year...again I have heard a lot, but two albums this year were head and shoulders above the rest... and now to 2007 and Plutons...the new Sproutts album out soon...
