2006 was pretty great musically. It wasn't the best year this decade, but hardly shit.

I actually thought this year was a great year, probably the best, for underground and less mainstream music. Even indie stalwarts who I thought would just release terrible records like Sonic Youth and Yo La Tengo, wound up releasing some of the better stuff of their careers. This has been a fantastic year for music as far as I'm concerned. I've bought more shit this year that is new than I have in a long time.

Me too, I don't think it's been great but some really good stuff came out this year.

Having said that, I have never really understood what the big deal about Gwen Stefani is. A horribly goofy trite 90s version of Debbie Harry with a knack for hiring bad producers. I never was a big No Doubt fan as I don't like revivalist ska/alternateen rock and I just could never figure out why they were so big. Most of my friends really dig them, to this day, but I just can't really dig it. I think she and her former band has talent, just not something I'm all that interested in.
Emo makes me laugh. My Chemical Romance's new record proves to me that their singer probably is the bastard child of Billy Corgan. I think that he really dug his dad whenever Corgan went all Nikki the Nosferatu Cabbage Patch kid and just loved it and threw some Queen influence in there to really "show the hardcore kids" how "weird" they were. It's just funny.

I've always liked some of No Doubt's singles, but that damn Hollaback Girl thing was craptastic. I've been able to avoid her new album so far, but she's getting more irratating as she gets older IMO.
At this point, I think I actually prefer her husband and his old band.

Ok, I've tried to like Bush on several occasions and I just can't. That stuff is just torturous to me.

I like the fact that Gavin is pretty much doing nothing these days, just raising his kids and hanging out, rather than inflicting new music on us. And I don't mind hearing a Bush tune on the radio once in a while ... though I certainly wouldn't ever feel the need to actively cue one up.

The one record that Steve Albini recorded of theirs wasn't bad, to tell you the truth. I have to agree though that I'd much rather listen to that than one single second of Stefani's solo stuff.
He's also still subjected music to people, Ken, it's just that no one is buying it. He has some new band now and they are a super bad version of newer Helmet. Whew, it's a stinker.

See, if nobody is buying it and it doesn't get played on the radio/TV/etc., then as far as I'm concerned he's leaving me alone.
Gwen, on the other hand, is impossible to get away from. And nowhere near as stylish/attractive/interesting as she (or the media) seems to think.

Well, Ken, I'd do her. I think she's pretty fucking hot, man.

I'd fuck her. But I'd make sure she was gagged, one way or another.
I don't think she's killer or anything, but pussy is pussy.

I'd fuck her too, but I have low standards.
Honestly though, I can't think of a single year during my music geek career that I'd consider to be a shit year for music. Each year has plenty of worthwhile stuff IMO, and 2006 is no exception.

01. Neko Case, Fox Confessor Brings the Flood 02. Bob Dylan, Modern Times 03. Loose Fur, Loose Fur 04. Camera Obscura, Let's Get Out of This Country 05. Thom Yorke, The Eraser 06. Beck, The Information 07. The Raconteurs, Broken Boy Soldier 08. Yo La Tengo, I Am Not Afraid of You and Will Kick Your Ass 09. The Strokes, First Impressions of Earth 10. Jenny Lewis & the Watson Twins, Rabbit Fur Coat
Others I have, and not list worthy anyways: The Who, Endless Wire The Little Willies
Not too bad. The first two records rule supreme so Mary's list is almost definitive.
I really need to relisten to most of this stuff and there is a lot of records I'd like to pick up before the year is out.

The Fox Confessor really is terrific. You can't go wrong putting that at number 1.

1. Tim Finn - Imaginary Kingdom 2. Scritti Politti - White Bread Black Beer 3. RHCP - Stadium Arcadium 4. Muse - Black Holes and Revelations 5. John Mayer - Continuum 6. Placebo - Meds 7. Morrissey - Ringleader of the Tormentors 8. Scissor Sistors - Ta-Dah 9. Justin Timberlake - FutureSex-LoveSounds 10. Raconteurs - Broken Boy Soldiers That was actually harder than I thought it would be, and not because of the plethora of choices. Quite the opposite. Like I said, 2006 was a pretty bad year music-wise, at least for my tastes. btw, that wasn't typed out with my penis. I tried doing that, but I kept making typos. Anyone capable of doing such a thing is obviously pencil-dicked.
