The Top Ten
10. Bernard Purdie (Roberta Flack) 09. Moe Tucker (Velvet Underground).....I so fucking take issue with this. Overrated! 08. Stewart Copeland (The Police) 07. Topper Headon (The Clash) 06. Dave Grohl (I love Dave, but I think it's bullshit to rate him this high) 05. Stephen Morris-(Joy Division/New Order) Sigh......I like this dude, but I think they should give this to Martin Hannett since he really made his sounds. 04. Charlie Watts (Rolling Stones) Yikes is this way too high of a rating for this cat. 03. Jaki Leibezeit (Can) Again, I like Can, but THIRD?!? This is fucking stupid. 02. Keith Moon (The Who) 01. John Bonham (Led Zeppelin)
Eh, this list pisses me off. Also, Not included in this list that totally pisses me off and are much better choices:
1. Tim Alexander-Primus 2. Terry Bozzio-Zappa 3. Danny Carey-Tool 4. George Hurley-Minutemen 5. William Goldsmith-Sunny Day Real Estate 6. Mike Portnoy-Dream Theater 7. Max Weinberg-E Street Band 8. Tommy Lee-Motley Crue 9. Matt Cameron!!!-Soundgarden, Pearl Jam 10. Dale Crover-The Melvins

Moe Tucker #9 - bullshit! This mag is just trying to get cool hipster points. No fucking way Moe should even be mentioned with some of these drummers. And I dig the VU - that list is crap.

swear to god: if ANY one of you just bothers to check out the Bonus DVD on Korn's new album 'untitled', you will be in for:
Watching Terry Bozzio peform some drumming skills on his Monstrous Kit which, in terms of rock'n'roll history, gets right up there with:
~Bonzo's MOBY DICK live performance, and ~Neil Peart's live drumming
It is that sensational . . . truly, Bozzio's drumming is jawdroppingly astonishing. On the dvd Jon explains how Terry tunes his drums to certain notes and actually plays music w/his percussive onslaught. And just watching Terry's facial expressions while he lays in what is almost as if he is drumming for his life* is just... well, its the stuff rock'n'roll legends are made from.
* And there's a reason for that, too: It has now been released to the press that the real reason Bozzio ended up not touring w/Korn, is because he actually wanted to become a fulltime official member of the band. He didn't realize that they are serious about keeping that spot for David, their official drummer. The hiatus that David is currently on is quite literally, real. Of course rumors fly like wildfire about "what if David doesn't return" and "who would they get to replace him?" [answer: TERRY BOZZIO, duh] , but the fact remains to any clear headed thinker: DAvid will return.
So it was actually bittersweet to watch this DVD (incredibly well made by the way), and see how Terry was drumming for his life, against all hope of getting in Korn, and realize that those studio drumming sessions he contributed will stand the test of time as some of the most glorious moments in their recorded history.

The top 2 picks were perfect, but leaving off Danny Carey is indefensible.

This mag is just trying to get cool hipster points. If that's their intent, then they failed miserably. Honestly, I'm not even sure what they're trying to achieve with this list. Also is this a best drummer list or best rock drummer list?

Uh, I guess there's some non-rock guys in there. WTF is about all anyone can say, really. Why did they even bother making this list?

^^^^ Although I'm more excited to see the Beastie Boys than the Police. And speaking of the Beasties, Mike D is a better drummer than Moe Tucker
