Nah, those guys are at least entertainingly pretentious. Lou Reed's just boring.

Phil Collins.
Those are some great tunes you've been listening to there, DED. The Jam rocked.

Lou Reed and Robbie Robertson...jeez 'o pete, if two guys were ever riding thirty year old genius into the sunset... Thirty year old? What did Robbie Robertson do in 1977 that was at all interesting? Sweet Lou did some of his best stuff in the eighties IMO (and not JUST New York), but Robertson's been both sporadic and sporadically interesting for like twenty years. Yeah, Robbie's pretty dull, all in all. He did do some pretty cool music for that Native American show a few years back, but the last consistently great record he was involved with was, let's be honest here, The Band (their second album!). It's all been downhill from there. Brian Wilson's music hasn't always been up to snuff over the last two decades, but you can't call the meltdown of his personal life "boring" by any stretch.

Last Waltz was 1978... I thought I was being pretty forgiving giving Lou an extra decade.

But all Robertson did on Last Waltz was play guitar and get stoned. Honestly, it isn't even that good a live album (damn little on there wasn't done better in the studio or elsewhere).
Really, if you need a reason to demonstrate why punk NEEDED to happen in '77/'78, you could do worse than pointing at The Last Waltz. An insular scene removed from any relavance it once had disappearing up its own ass.

Why do try to hurt me so? C'mon it was win/win...you got the first four or so Lou Reed albums...which are still crap but I was going to give them to you all you had to do was not dump on the Last Waltz. You'll regret this Holzman, mark my words.

Here's two questions: WHen is the last time you actually sat through the entire album? A few weeks ago. Personally, I think that Berlin is his best, so I should just say "all of them", but I'll stick to the ones that almost any Lou Reed fan would agree with: Mistrial Sally Can't Dance Lou Reed Rock and Roll Heart The Raven Really, New York and the Blue Mask are the only ones that you can make a decent case for, as far as being as good as Berlin, but even then, I think you'd be wrong. And yeah, I know you're just trying to get a rise out of me by even bringing this up, PEW. It's cool.
