I'd say the Strokes, but I like Room on Fire enough (as a set of songs more than a cohesive record) to award them the two-album wonder nod. Is This It remains a wonderful piece of sexed-up garage rock, particularly thanks to Casablancas' one-line jabs ("Life seems unreal can we go back to your place") that separate their early stuff from borderline minimalism, but First Impressions as a whole is pulling teeth at best.
How about Moby Grape? ... Or the Vaselines, seeing how they were one and done?

Actually, I'd say the only real "one album wonders" are all bands that only made one album. I think you're probably right -- but PEW wanted bands who "had one great album .. the rest was either mediocre or crappy." So we can't talk about bands who only made one album here. No I didn't say that. In fact I said there are various reasons an album could be a one-album wonder. I've explained all this on my blog as well. I've also posted my list there if anyone is interested in viewing it.

I glanced at it the way an ex-girlfriend glances at her ex-boyfriend's blog and notices that the new girl he's with is just 2 steps of fucking hideous.

Dozens of other bands out there have had a similar impact on the world...
