I'm torn between my desire to be liked by layla and my well-informed opinion that the Manic Street Preachers are the single most overrated thing that Wales ever produced.

I'll be straight with you, Ryo. Deep down I know that MSP are mostly shite. I've been berated incessantly by everyone from JLLM to my ex-boyfriend who looked like Steve-O to some drunk indie fuck who stole my Jager shot about this.
And I don't even really know why I like MSP. Its probably mostly to do with their singer having gone missing. I love dysfunctional men & the bands behind them. And maybe a little of it is b/c they write good melodies. Its perplexing.
Fear not, Ryo. I still like you, even if you are from the nation that produces sake, the drink that almost killed me when I saw fit to follow it with absinthe. And anyway, Catherine Zeta Jones is the most overrated thing out of Wales.

I'm a Stone Roses fan. I forbid anyone to besmirch their good name. MBV & MSP shouldn't be on the same list as Terrence Trent D'Arby. I can't believe I've even typed out his stupid name. next time just call him TTD'A and we'll know what you mean... Jesus, i actually liked some of Sham 69's stuff. It had some of the dumb ass 'Oi' mentality to it, but it also was just alot of fun...But I could really do without the choruses where it sounds like an entire football crowd is singing along--that just represents everything about punk/hardcore I hated (ala Black Flag)...

I'm torn, I want Ryo to like me but only because of my extraordinary ability to seek out great Japanese bands...not so much for Brit rock... to be honest Tits renouncing the Stone Roses soley for me is kinda hot, I think I like her even more while being kinda creeped out by Stone Roses now.

Also MBV didn't make a good album.

Sham 69 define the words "punk by numbers." There is absolutely no reason for anyone to listen to them today. None. Unless you feel the need to listen to really shitty music.
Pandering to punk scenesters is just as bad as pandering to middle America or dance-floor scenesters.

Oh yeah, speaking of which, I think you mentioned World's End Girlfriend previously. To tell the truth, I'd never even heard of them, and didn't know that they were Japanese until you said so. It's kind of fascinating for me that there's such a large discrepancy between the Japanese acts that have (some) following in the West, and the ones that are popular at home (by that, I'm not referring to the shitty chart-topping acts that have no business being popular anywhere, but the kind of acts that people on this message board would listen to if they were Japanese/lived in Japan). Boris is a good example of this - they're far more popular in the US than at home. I offered to send some shit to Skvor on the YSI thread - and I'll happily extend that offer to you as well (and I could do sendspace too if you prefer that over physical copies of CDs).

Are there even any punk scenesters today? Punks got old & had ugly babies in the early 90s. Then in 1994 they started bitching about how new punk bands suck...with precious little acknowledgment of the fact that old punk mostly sucked, too.

I don't know if there are any punk scenesters today -- god I hope not -- but since Sham 69 were around in the late seventies, it's fair to call what they did pandering to punk scenesters. And it was crap. I love first wave punk, but Sham 69 were just awful. Even their popular cuts were awful (unlike, say, Generation X who generally sucked but who put out some good singles). There was lots of great music that came from the punk scene, but Sham 69 didn't make any of it.

I kind of want DED to like me now. I feel lost & directionless without him.

We need to do a Blank Generation board reunion. Maybe that will get me to start listening to punk again.

I can't believe I stopped listening to punk. I can't believe it either. Just don't listen to Sham 69. I listened to the Boredoms today, Ryo. For about two minutes. Talk about your pretentious noise ... reminded me of some really perverse free jazz I listened to back in the very early eighties. Does have a strangely compelling quality to it -- sort of like tuning in to a trainwreck. If that's your thing, they seem to be very good at it. But as you may have determined from the above paragraph, it wasn't really my thing.

Dude, don't blame me for the Boredoms. I just happen to be from the same country as them. Mary's the person you should direct your complaint at.
