Filling requests is also a great way to get your ratio going in the right direction. You're almost guaranteed 2.0+ ratio (per torrent) when you upload.

Already? What a rebel. I think I would've been in Ken's shoes too if I was exposed to bittorrent and oink simultaneously. Now I'm just downloading selectively with Oink. And uploading some stuff too. I got 1.5 GB back from a FLACin' Mellenhead upload alone.

Yeah I noticed that one. People downloading that should know better than to waste their ratio on a damn Mellencamp greatest hits collection on FLAC...I mean do you really need lossless on a greatest hits collection, especially when you just want Jack and Diane?

Not only that, but 5 of Mellenhead's snatches were on the first night I uploaded it. They were all over him. I'm telling ya, Mellenhead's a leech magnet. ;D

I've downloaded one album since I signed up...just can't seem to get into it. Still using Soulseek for everything. Don't feel like uploading from Oink and then having to worry about ratio, and certainly don't feel like wasting memory on some shitty album for the sake of uploads. Also don't feel like slowing down my computer with utorrent.

Then just take advantage of the free 5 GB's they give you until you get banned.

The vast amount of quality and/or hard to find torrents at speeds approaching 500kps far outweighs whatever you manage to luck out finding on slsk.

^^yeah I gotta agree with that. Soulseek pisses me off. There have also been a couple of times when I've gotten incomplete albums because the user on the other end decided to log off half way through the download. Also, there's no guarantee of quality, whereas with Oink no one seems to risk uploading crappy files.

Speed isn't much of an issue, since I don't listen to anything I download until at least a day later. I keep waiting for something to not pop up on slsk so I can use Oink for it, but it hasn't happened yet. I think there's presently enough Oink users on slsk that the second anything leaks it's on slsk. And I'm pretty content with my back catalogue right now, so I can't find much use for it there. I'll prolly come around eventually, but right now it's not doing a whole lot for me.

Oink's great for finding old stuff you always wanted but never got around to getting. Utorrent slows down my PC too (although not as bad as Azureus does) which is why I usually download when I'm sleeping.

I had to move a bunch of files around, and so I've wound up d/l'ding new stuff just so I have something seeded. I'm gonna upload a couple of files -- probably this weekend, but maybe sooner. My raw data totals are still low enough that I'm not too worried about getting my ratio up in time -- maybe if I'm still in the same situation NEXT Monday, I'll be sweating.
