Don't dig too deep of a hole, Ken. You'll never upload as quickly as you can download.

Ken, if I recall correctly you once said you had Stevie Wonder's At the Close of a Century box set. That's not available in any format over at Oink. If you were to upload that (preferably in FLAC) you'd be in ratio heaven. Just a suggestion...
I've downloaded a few Stevie Wonder albums myself from Oink and they've all seeded pretty well, which means he's pretty popular with the Oinkers. Go for it before someone else does it first...

Oh, btw Ken, if you can't be bothered with the whole set-up procedure for ripping flac files just download this software from oink. oink.me.uk/details.php?id=1063992It rips flac files right off the bat so you don't have do install external encoders and shit like that. The only disadvantage is that it won't you give you a .log report. Which means that someone else can come along later and put up the same flac files with a .log and cancel yours out. Although I don't see that happening with something like a box set. By then you will have gotten your ratio up anyway. I've downloaded it myself and it works just fine.

I became a power user over the weekend. Thanks again Shin for the invite. And to everyone else for the uploading tips. Now I've got some invites too if anyone's interested. I just got a quick question concerning stuff I've uploaded. This may sound kinda silly but I just wanna be sure. If something I have uploaded has been snatched a few times and is being seeded by several users, can I stop seeding it so I can remove it from my HD? Will it still remain 'active' between people who have already snatched it and new users wanting to download it? I don't intend on deleting the torrent from the OiNK site, but can I just open my BT client, right-click on the file and "delete torrent +data"?

I think you can delete your seed once it's been picked up by others on the site. I can't think of any reason why not, they just say that you need to seed until others are. Congrats on the power user status. I finally got myself off ratio watch, via uploading part of an obscure Miles Davis box set and a rare Dylan live disc. I'm at about a .40 ratio now, and plan on keeping it that way.

It's still not up Ken. All it'll take is one person to snatch that from you and you'll be doing fine. I'm still seeding my Stevie Wonder downloads, they've been a great help. They're probably my most seeded torrents (ratio-wise, not size wise). The 1GB Mellenhead upload has been my secret weapon. I've gotten more than twice that back... and counting.

Yes, you can do that once your torrent has been snatched once. You don't have to wait until #2, just the first snatch is enough. It's not really up to you to keep your torrents afloat, some people have uploaded hundreds of them and it's impossible for any internet connection to maintain that many individual torrent seedings, let alone the required individual connections that makes up just a single seed.

What I do is I download all my torrents (V0 encoding usually) to a special folder called "torrents", which is primarily used for seeding. Within that folder is another folder called "!copy", named so that it always shows up first in the listing. Once I finish downloading a torrent, I copy the folder to the !copy subfolder. Then I properly rename and tag those mp3s using Musicmatch, then move the tagged copy to my main D:/My Music/ folder. This means that I have one copy for listening to and one for seeding, which creates twice the space per torrent. However, once I've seeded at least 2.0 on the individual torrent, then I "delete torrent + data" and keep the archived copy only.
This wreaks havoc on my secondary disc hard drive's space, but I'm holding steady at 1.600 ratio in spite of a ton of downloading these past two months. All this without uploading.

Yeah, that's sorta what I do to. I've got a folder on my desktop called "NewDVD". As soon as I've downloaded a new album, I copy/paste it into that folder so I can tag the songs properly, leaving the original folders behind to seed. Once I've gathered about 4GB of music into the NewDVD folder, I burn it to DVD and then just erase its contents so I can fill it up with new downloads all over again. The only music I listen to on my computer is from stuff that's seeding. Occasionally I'll pop in a CD too. My HD is only 40GB so I can't afford to have duplicate files for long, which is why I transfer everything to DVD-R's.

Currently d/l'ding a live Westerberg recording from '96. Supposed to be via the sound board, so I'm jazzed to hear this. The source says that it was one of a series of concerts that Paul taped in preparation for a possible live album, so it should be pretty good. I'll be happy to post it here if anyone wants a copy.

I'm snatching Adam and the Ants right now. I think it's been decades since I last heard "Stand and Deliver" so I can't wait to hear it again.

I'm getting some nice action on these Yazoo blues discs I've been uploading. I'll be a PU+ before long.

Power User? Oh hell, I'm just happy to have my share ratio above fifty percent now.
I've had real good luck w/seeding some of the Warren Zevon, etc. I just d/l'ded. Gotta finish putting up that Miles box, too ... and that Stevie Wonder box that Kool mentioned.

Rip stuff to Flac and V0 and up them both at the same time. Box sets of huge names like Miles and Stevie, ripped in site-preferred bitrate will always do well.
