In fact, on most levels BH & R is easily their most accomplished and complete album. That was purely a nostalgia vote I just cast, thinking about it, since OOS tails off quite dramatically by the time we reach pap like "Darkshines". Wow, I'm shocked to see you of all people post this. BH&R comes in a distant third for me. I like it a lot, but it really didn't hold up for me in the scheme of things last year. Hell, I've made mixes in the three or four months that included songs off OOS and Absolution, but no BH&R. This is most likely due to the fact that when I want to hear Muse, I want to hear some guy shredding on guitar.

Origin of Symmetrry for me. I almost voted for "Showbiz" because I still really like that album.

Where's the choice for "Never heard a Single Muse Song?"

I am not crazy about Muse, although because of shin I really tried to get into Black Holes & Revelations. I can see why people would like them, though.

Strangely, when I want to hear Muse, a lot of the time it's to mellow out to tunes like "Blackout" or stop time and think to "Ruled By Secrecy". I gave "Ruled By Secrecy" another listen the other day and decided it's their best song, hands down. If going strictly by sound alone, few songs have that much sincerity. I doubt there's more than 10 songs I could ever find that match its haunting brilliance and beauty.

Well, to make things clearer than my last post did, I've only listened to BH&R about 5 or 6 times as it didn't connect with me that much. I've lived fanatically with Muse for so many years I'm a bit worn out on their sound. I probably played Showbiz dusk to dawn for about 2 straight years solid before OOS even got released so there's a bit of Muse fatigue going on here. But I heard enough to think that in terms of song-writing, musicianship, scope, variety etc BH&R is probably their most accomplished album. They're now masters of their craft, no doubt about it. But yeah, I have sympathy for what you're saying. I've heard "Plug In Baby" described as guitar 101 riffing, but I still love that song.

luke - what did you (and Riley etc) make of the new Bloc Party btw? I guess you had a discussion somewhere while I was offline, but I can't find it.

The hater of Bloc Party that I am, I really like the new disc myself. Less nu-dance and more something of their own thing.

Does Bloc Party sing a song that says at the end: "I figured it out.........I figured it out.......I can see ahead......I can see ahead......"? It's one of the best songs I've ever heard on a CD that had Bloc Party, Air and Broken Social Scene on it, along with some other bands. I know it's not the other two, but I do remember seeing Bloc Party listed before I lost the list. Man I wish there was a way to find out who sings it.

Yes, Silent Alarm is a great album - though it's not all as melodic or pleasant as that track. They're quite spiky.
