Me neither. Sonic Youth is a lot better than Jane's. That depends, kenny. On whether you prefer rocking w/your cock out, or having your brain scribbled with noisy feedback of a non rocking nature. *yawn*

See, I've gone and figure'd (most of) y'all out: Ya just ain't true blue rebel rockers. That's fine ! (of course) "Each to his own", as they say. I'm not knockin' the NON rockin' . I'm just sayin' . . . . I'm about the only real dyed-in-the-wool mo-fo'in ROCKER, (balls out, that is) on these boards, w/the exception of ADAM, and all those PORCUPINE TREE fans out there ;D

Oh - also - - Jane's Addiction kicks SONIC YOUTH'S mangy, amplified fed-back wall-of-noodlin' ASS, right into the dirt !
This, of coure, is only viable in terms of ROCK. AND. ROLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLL!
And I do mean "ROCK" and roll. Hey, Sonic YOuth sure know how to "ROLL", I'll admit it.
But they couldn't ROCK their way outta a WET PAPER BAG, sheeeeesh !
Jane's Addiction - ? Fuuuck ! They knew how to rock, is all.
And I base my own personal "quality measurement" of bands on a scale of just how much can they RAAAWWWWKKKKKKK ! ! !! \m/
Why'n the hell d'ya think I'm ALL OVER the deathmetal, blackmetal, metal, metal metal, KORN, Led Zeppelin, Aerosmith (old school, that is), OPETH, Jane's Addiction, Rage Against The Machine, Alice In Chains, even Nirvana - - these bands are SEPERATED from all the other pansy -ass outfits you NON-ROCKERS love so much, on account of how fuckin' badass these aforementioned bands ROCK THE FUCK OUT !
THAT'S the "criteria", right there, bitches. MY criteria. And based on THAT criteria alone. . . . JANE'S ADDICTION are truly one of the ALL TIME GREATEST ROCK BANDS THAT EVER LIVED.
You can go die now.
;D

Jane's Addiction were better than Sonic Youth in the 80s and I would almost say the 90s too(even with only one album). Ritual de lo Habitual is almost as good as Goo, Dirty, Jet Set and Washing Machine combined. Sonic Youth of course has much more good music, but when JA peaked musically they were in a realm Sonic Youth has never come close to. "Dirty Boots" IMO is the best, most well written song in their whole catalogue, but it doesn't even compare to "Three Days." Side B of Ritual is better than any other side from any other band ever w/ the exception of, YES, Pink Floyd. All that being said, I stopped listening to them years ago but can still appreciate their talent.

Personally, I don't think Jane's Addiction ever rose above 2nd tier radio rock. The list of bands from the 80's that I think were better is pretty long.

Jane's biggest contribution to the music world was when Perry started Lollapalooza.

Jane's Addiction was a very good band. I liked them a lot. I love some of their stuff. But their best stuff was still worse than:
Daydream Nation Sister EVOL Dirty Goo Washing Machine Sonic Nurse

The list of bands from all time that I think are better is very, very short. 4, maybe 5. And they only made 3 albums.

The list of bands this decade that are better than Jane's is pretty long too. I'm just saying. We're over-inflating the Addiction a bit, here.

I will say this: "Gift" was pretty cool and Casey Niccoli (despite the heroin pock marks) was SUPER hot.

I like Jane's Addiction, too. I think they were a good band. But to say that Jane's was the best band of the 80's underrates a lot of good eighties music.
