The obvious answer is Sonic Youth, but based strictly on the most recent stuff, we may get some votes for the Strokes, Interpol, the Yeah Yeah Yeahs, maybe some others. |

DBT are all from Alabama, but I think they operate out of Athens, GA nowadays. I'd have no problem putting them in the AL spot though.

Matthew Sweet is from Nebraska, BTW. So are those idiots in 311, but Sweet is better. And Indigenous are from South Dakota. Lawrence Welk is still the only North Dakota musician I can think of. DBT should get the Alabama spot -- I mean, they reference the state in their songs, they've got an album called Alabama Ass-Whoopin', how much more closely associated with Alabama could they be? |

Hell, even I know Prince's from Minneapolis- if that isn't embodiment of place and space, nothing else is.

Jonny Lang is from North Dakota, I think. As much as I love the 'Mats, Prince has had a more consistent career then Westerberg.
