Yeah, the Iowa music scene looks....grim. According to allmusic, here are a list of artists from Des Moines:
Heroic Dose (who?) Harriet Hillard (who?) James Hudson (who?) Carrie McDowell (who?) Arthur Moorhead (who?) Lanny Morgan (who?) Ellyn Rucker (who?) Slipknot (oh, them) Bill Stewart (who?) T-Boz (who?) Tionne Watkins (who?)
so, um, yeah. and here are artists from iowa city:
Huns (who?) Preacher Boy (who?) The Sucka MCs (who?)
Sooo OK then, I guess Slipknot gets Iowa. Ouch.
Cheers, M

Here are some bands from Portland, OR: www.allmusic.com/cg/amg.dll?p=amg&sql=13:BPPORTLAND,|OR I don't know how to look up Oregon in general, though. I haven't heard of many on this list, but there's a few - Dandy Warhols, Exploding Hearts, Epoxies, Imogene.... do the Dandy Warhols still exist?

As far as I can find Slipknot is the only notable band from Iowa except for Tommy Bolan, who's dead.

T-Boz and Tionne Watkins are the same person and they are/were in TLC.

I'm also pretty sure South Carolina has to go to Hootie & The Blowfish or Edwin McCain or Young Jeezy.

Also I think Slipknot broke up, so you actually have to go with Stone Sour now.

Oh wait. .
... what's the criteria again on this ? If it's the stupidest / most cheesiest / or most popular bands from that state, I take it back. Hooty should take the cake on that one.

Indiana's between Days Of The New and John Mellencamp.

I'll give Indiana to tekon.
Seriously, they're way better than Mellencamp and Days of the New. And they feature a Fragtone.

Also, is Days of the New still together?

Where the hell is Frag anyway? Probably pumping out some new tekon recordings as we speak.

I thought you hated Trail of Dead. The last couple of records have forced me to change my mind. I like some of the riffs of Slipknot but for the most part I think they are pants. However, as far as Iowa is concerned it's a hell of a lot better than Stone Sour.
