And I thought he hated Slipknot... And didn't Sleater-Kinney break up? "indefinite hiatus" at least... I love that Florida is represented by Obituary. HA! I'm not sure if it was a definite break-up or a long term hiatus. I thought it was the latter, that's why I put them down for Oregon. And by that logic, Fugazi should, no has to, get the DC nod.

If Fugazi were together, then yeah, they'd run away with it for DC. But they're not.

but they haven't officially broken up, right?

No, Fugazi haven't broken up. Ian and Guy have both said there are no plans for Fugazi in the foreseeable future but that they are still a band. I would still consider them currently inactive, same with Sleater Kinny.

What's the difference between a band that has broken up and a band that has "no plans in the forseeable future"?
Fugazi hasn't released an album in 6 years, and have no plans to do anything any time soon. I guess Ryosuke should get the final call on this, but I just can't imagine how they would qualify for this.

Sonic Youth is so very much better then Velvet Underground. It's not even close. Okay, I'm not sure I can take on 3 of you. Can I take you down one at a time then? I'll take on DED first because I think he's the biggest of the three. Probably best to take care of you before I'm all worn down. This will not stand. I'll help you out, Rocky. Can I bring the dogs, too? VU's first album blows away the entire Sonic Youth catalog. SY are still a great band, but nowhere near the level of the VU.

i love sonic youth, and i love the VU, and i think the first VU album is the best album either of the two groups have ever written, but i still can't agree with the "Vu & nico shits all over everything sonic youth ever did" logic. daydream nation is pretty fucking spectacular, that's all i'm sayin'.

Yeah, I think VU&N is the best album ever. But I wouldn't say it shits all over Daydream Nation. DN is a perfect album. Nothing shits on it.

I was just waiting for Skvor to contribute to this. Anyway, here's what the list looks like now. Sleater Kinney and Fugazi have been disqualified due to inactivity. And Paul, were Foo Fighters ever based in Virginia? I just don't think that one member being from the state is enough.
Thorn, if you can choose one of those South Carolina bands, I'll stick them in the list.
Alabama - Drive By Truckers/ XBXRX Alaska Arizona - Calexico Arkansas - American Princes California - Tool/ Comets On Fire/ Neurosis Colorado Connecticut Delaware District of Columbia - The Evens Florida - Tom Petty/ Obituary Georgia - REM/ Allman Brothers/ Of Montreal Hawaii - Jack Johnson Idaho - Built To Spill Illinois - Wilco Indiana - Racebannon Iowa - Slipknot Kansas Kentucky - My Morning Jacket Louisiana Maine Maryland Massachusetts - Pixies/ Damon and Naomi/ Mission of Burma Michigan - Blanche/ White Stripes/ Wolf Eyes Minnesota - Paul Westerberg/ Prince/ The Busy Signals Mississippi Missouri - Son Volt Montana Nebraska - Matthew Sweet/ The Faint Nevada New Hampshire New Jersey - Yo La Tengo/ Ted Leo and the Pharmacists New Mexico - the Shins New York - Sonic Youth/ Beastie Boys/ Les Savy Fav North Carolina - Ben Folds/ Portastatic North Dakota - Lawrence Welk/ Jonny Lang Ohio - Robert Pollard/ Beastie Boys Oklahoma - Flaming Lips Oregon Pennsylvania - The Modey Lemon Rhode Island Lightning Bolt South Carolina South Dakota - Indigenous Tennessee - The Raconteurs/ Kings of Leon Texas - The Mars Volta/ ...And You Will Knows Us By the Trail of Dead Utah Vermont Virginia - Rah Bras/ Sparklehorse Washington - Pearl Jam/ Modest Mouse West Virginia Wisconsin Wyoming
