I know that this is rather geeky of me to post but there is a web site called DVD Aficionado (www.dvdaficionado.com) that lets people list their collections and socialize and all that other good stuff.
If anyone is bored, they can go over there, click on the member search link and type in "Adam Sexton" and see everything he owns in the realm of the digital video disk. Or start your own account (it's free).

DVD Aficionado is the end all of catalog sites. My lists are here, split into Film, TV, and Music (same for wish lists) because I had much time on my hands one day a few months ago: www.dvdaficionado.com/dvds.html?cat=1&id=kastenmI see Adam had the same brilliant organization idea as I. Always fun to go through other collections to see how many they own that you also own as well as how many they have that are on your wishlist.

My DVD colection is pretty small - I don't collect movies the way I collect music, because it's expensive and you don't typically replay DVDs over and over again the way you endlessly replay CDs. I mean, obviously, there are some movies that you like to watch multiple times, but still, even the DVDs I own, there are some I've only watched once - in which case, why not just rent?
So here's my small collection of DVDs:
Mildred Pierce The Wages of Fear The Night of the Hunter The Birds Midnight Cowboy The Last Picture Show Chinatown Twin Peaks Season 1 (TV Show) 12 Monkeys Mulholland Drive
And then I also own the following movies on VHS:
Rosemary's Baby The French Connection The Exorcist One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest The Shining Blade Runner Blood Simple Heathers The Lost Boys
And, finally, because I'm a bad bad girl, I've taped all the following movies from Netflix DVDs (gasp!):
Nosferatu Citizen Kane The Third Man Wild Strawberries Some Like it Hot Halloween Y Tu Mama Tambien
And that's that. I'm jealous of that cheesy b-horror box set that kats got for xmas, though!!
Cheers, M

Glad to see another member of that site, Weeping. You have quite a few Criterion DVDs that I wish I had.

mary, the best b-grade movie i own is this gem called 'blood diner'. i have friends who buy me these movies when they come across them wherever. its about these two guys. their uncle went crazy and killed a bunch of people for an ancient god. anyway, when they grow up, they dig up his corpse and retrieve his brain (his eyeballs are still connected, of course) and let him devise a plan to resurrect the ancient god using he body parts of teenage girls.
so, of course...they set up a vegetarian burger place and slaughter the innocent teenage girls. all i need say is, there is a wooden man in the movie, for some reason, dodgy eighties clothing, a guest appearance by rhe band 'the crabs', oddly enough. and there's a nude aerobics scene.
but the entire film is at its best when they bring a girl back to their burger shop, deep fry her head (whilst alive) and knock the batter call off with a golf club.
the best of cinema.
ok, im going to go join that site.

ok, i started. www.dvdaficionado.com/dvds.html?cat=1&id=katswthey didnt have a lot of the stuff i do, and with box sets, i chose the set closest to what i had. for example, i own true romance, pulp fiction, jackie brown and res dogs. but, my taratino box set was made up of pulp fiction, jackie brown and true romance. that kind of thing.

I suppose I used the Christmas season as an excuse to fill in a few movie staples on DVD. Just came today!
Wages of Fear - hadn't seen this one in too long, if I ever saw it all the way from the beginning. I recall a discussion with Mary about this one and The Sorcerer (remake) somewhere around here not long ago. Mary, now you need to see The Sorcerer! This baby was the most expensive - 25 bucks. But it's not readily available (and with the scenes that were censored from the US release and the wide screen, etc.) so I got it. Think we'll watch that one tonight.
Schindler's List - also a long time and KayJay hasn't seen it.
Tora, Tora, Tora - Widescreen! Great movie, excellent reference or primer - forget that piece o' crap "Pearl Harbor." Now I guess I should pick up Midway, but I can't stand to see Chuck Heston's boy get flambe'd one more time. (Phil, how do you get the accent thingy?) 9.99
The Good, The Bad, and The Ugly - Need I say more? Like I don't already have it on VHS, right? 9.99
Deliverance - One of the best movies ever made. It's hard to believe that even Burt Reynolds put in such a solid performance. Voight must've rubbed off on him on that one.
Maltese Falcon - "The stuff that dreams are made of..." 14.99
Barbarosa - this sleeper is irrestable. Mexican/Western with Willie Nelson and Gary Busey. Charming story with enough humor and great character development and a cool ending twist. "Barbarrrrrrosssssaaaaah!!!!!!!"

(Phil, how do you get the accent thingy?) You buy yourself a french language keyboard ... ! ! When you buy a Compaq Presario PC and you say you want a french keyboard they just gave it to you on top of the one that's included ... I know there was something I could do with the Ctrl key and the numbers pad but it's not working with my new keyboard ... Y'a quelque chose qui cloche la-dedans J'y retourne immédiatement ... (Boris Vian) La java des bombes atomiques

It's got a nasty scratch that can be repaired, but I picked up a used copy of Manhunter: Director's Cut over the weekend.
I also bought The Brothers Quay Collection. Has anyone ever seen their stuff? It's some of the most beautiful, nightmarish imagery, even under one minute.
Strat-O, I loved Willie in Barbarosa.
"You ain't got enough ass in yer britches to shoot Barbarosa."
(Oh, by the way Strat, the problem with logging in was taken care of) ;D

Yeah, Adam - I refer to Barbarosa as a "sleeper" because nobody else I ever talk to about it has seen it. (Glad you're getting in OK!)
OK, Mary - you simply have to see the Sorcerer now. I absolutely gaurantee you will love it. I think I like it better than the first film. There are significant differences, but it works marvelously either way.

It's supposedly both one of the greatest films ever, and the release is supposed to be amazing, even for Criterion's standards. One has to venture into French New Wave sometime, right? I have one of the crappy public domain releases, this film deserves better, as in this best release from it's home studio. Another double dip, but this film is so amazing I will gladly pay for any more insights in the the visual wonders of Michel Gondry.
