I'm sick to death of Roxanne, BTW. Me too. Actually, I think I've been sick of it for about 20 years now. Can't relate to that either.

No brainer for me. Synchronicity II is the closest they ever came to rock and roll. It kicks ass. There's just something about most of their melodies that just rubs me the wrong way. REM is like that with me, too. Can't relate, especially concerning the Police. You mean about most of the Police melodies rubbing me the wrong way? I don't know - they're just depressing to me, and not musically satisfying. They're kind of too cerebral and and convoluted. Sterile and cold. I know that's a bit subjective, but there it is.

Oh well. Can't feel that way listening to them myself. FWIW, I get a rush of energy most of the time I put in Regetta de Blanc and songs like "So Lonely" get put on about every first mix I make for people I meet. Even though the lyrics are slightly depressing there, it always puts a smile on my face. Considering the very beginning of that song, it's one of the happiest I've ever heard. Other deeper songs like "Invisible Sun" and "Wrapped Around Your Finger" just get me in a deep thinking mood. But I guess with the Police, the reason I put 'em in my stereo when I do is their sound. I love it. And then their style.
