Well, both bands started around the same time, and both are partly punk (the Police just barely on that one) and partly reggae (and the Clash just barely on that one). I'm sure more than just me will vote for the Police here, but I'm even more sure the Clash will run away with this one. Let me just be the first (and probably the only) one to say: Regetta de Blanc is the best album of 1979.

At the moment I'd rather listen to the Police.

The only thing I own by these bands are their Greatest Hits/Singles albums [and a download of London Calling]. I enjoy the Police disc much more so they get my vote here.

Good lord, The Clash. Hands down. While I enjoy the musicianship of The Police, lyrically The Clash continues to speak to me in profound ways.

well, I adored both bands, and bought The Police debut based on an effusive review in LA Times way back then......but I just gotta go with the Clash..I saw both bands live and both were amazing..but whereas I still frequently listen to London Calling, The Clash, etc....I can't say I listen much to the Police (though 2nd LP still is my fave)

It won't last. Besides, either skvor or Bow didn't vote [my guess is bow]. That means Holzman's Clash vote will tie it... and they're just the ones we know for sure. Clash are gonna slash the Police here.

I voted for the Clash already as well. Me and Bow are united in stopping your Axis of Yoga Evil.

I voted for the Clash already as well. Me and Bow are united in stopping your Axis of Yoga Evil. That makes three of us. And Dolly will join our side when she returns from holiday.

Oh thank god, it'd be a shame if this board lost some hipster cred.
