July 10 Hopefully ;D best album cover so far this year That's a gorgeous cover. I'll be buying it for sure. The new Spoon is AWESOME. They never really clicked with me before other than a song here or there, but I can't shut off the new one.

Spoon is one of those bands that I am proud to say has grown in leaps and bounds compared to the dry Pixies rip off style of their early days. The new one is just infectious goodness.
Also, if you guys haven't heard the new Dan Deacon or the new Battles records, pick them up. They are really just amazing.

Question for you Interpol freaks. I found an album of theirs on vinyl at the Virgin Megastore, and I thought about you patten. Wondered if I'd like it. It was a black album w/red lettering. . . . perhaps their debut re-released on 180 gram vinyl.
Yeah, it was "Turn On The Bright Lights". . . . so tell me, what do they sound like?
Who would you compare them to, such as influences, etc ?
I'm curious . . .

... also, my lil' bro' told me I should check out Bright Eyes, *wince*.
Exactly why I'm wincing I don't honestly know. So I stopped at the Virgin Listening Station, and checked out the first track of the new album, "Cassadaga".
What I heard was lush, meticulously crafted synthpop w/an almost proggish sensibility, I pictured a seamless hybrid of post-Beatles/Floydian kinda thing going on. Which in and of itself, is impressive.
The real reason my brother recommended them to me, was because he saw them live, in Portland, Maine recently. He said the show was excellent.
So . . . how many albums do they have, already? I'm intrigued. . . . but unsure of whether to proceed . . . .
What's the scoop on Bright Eyes, patten ?

"Turn on the Bright Lights" is a great record and one of the best debuts of this decade as far as I'm concerned. You hear Joy Division thrown around a bunch on various forums when it comes to them. They are definitely very post-punk brit with some Mogwai-esque guitar leads. They have a very dark, cool ethereal sound on that first record. I highly recommend that record.

holy shit, sounds right up my alley. Too bad I spent my wad the other day, but hell, I'll keep it in mind and hopefully snag that on vinyl, assuming its still available by next payday or whatnot.

Turn On The Bright Lights is indeed, a fantastic record. The second one doesn't even come close, despite sounding pretty similar.

So far, the ones I can think of right now liking a lot are Grinderman and the new NIN. But I think the best is yet to come... New releases by .... Chris CornellVelvet Revolver Crowded House Bjork Prince Interpol Tori AmosSmashing Pumpkins There are more I'm looking forward to, I just can't think of them right now. Crowded House is probably the only one of the bunch I'm pretty sure won't suck. The rest could go either way. That's two of my most anticipated albums of 2007 which turned out to be shit. I hope I don't cross out any more this year. As for Bjork, I like her new album, but it doesn't come close to being as brilliant as her first 2. Tori's album actually has a handful of tracks that are really good, but it's got so much crap surrounding them, that I just can't be bothered with it anymore.

Lol. that first track is unlike the rest of Cassadega. Though the band does have a rather marked Hermetic aspect to them. Conor Oberst has one foot planted in psyhic-soul dispatches from the ether.... but.... it's rather shallow in the end.

That Interpol cover is the worst album cover I think I've ever seen. Yes, even worse than Jim Post's I Love my Life. TOTBL remains the best debut album of the decade though, so I'll just wrap my Our Love To Admire CD in a brown paper bag..

I would have to say that Interpol album cover is . . . tacky.
