I fear that I'm in danger of resembling PEW here in starting one thread after another, but this was inspired by the Smashing Pumkins discussion at the best 2007 album thread. You can talk about actual reunions, or just "man I wish those guys would reunite again” type of things.

Good idea for a thread Ryo. Maybe we'll also start another thread for "who should split the fuck up" too. That should get people ranting for sure. I gotta get back to you on this one though. The few I can think of right now would probably suck if they reunited, because they were already starting to suck when they split [talking heads, eurythmics]. Maybe splitting up aint such a bad thing after all. Maybe it's just bands sensing they've had their run and simply calling it quits before making asses of themselves.

If we're going to start that thread, it should be about just that; once-great bands who need to split up to rescue their legacy from misery, instead of bands who need to split up because they sucked from the very beginning. The latter list would be endless...

You know who I'd like to see reunite the most? Supercar. I'd like to see Sunny Day Service reunite too, but that's mainly because I want to see them play those songs live. I don't really have a desire to see any new material from them because I like most of Keiichi Sokabe's solo output, and I'm perfectly happy with what he's being doing since the breakup. But it would be so awesome to see 2 hours of nothing but SDS songs, instead of just the couple of songs that Sokabe sprinkles throughout the setlist now. Though I suspect that he'll play quite a few material from his old band when I see him next week. I mean, he's bound to play for like at least 5 hours (I hope he doesn't die in the middle of the set). But anyway, I won't be surprised at all if a Sunny Day Service reunion happens somewhere down the line, and you can bet your ass that I'll score tickets to see them. But man, Supercar. They need to fucking reunite, though I know deep inside that it'll never happen. Nakamura has been going on all these experimental tangents, which is fine I guess, but it was his pop songs that I loved so dearly, and I doubt that we'll ever get them from him again without Supercar I loved Blankey Jet City, and their last couple of albums were some of their best, but they shouldn't reunite. That would just be wrong.

Frankly, I think David Byrne should either get back with Talking Heads or he should stop releasing shitty new music. At least when the Heads weren't that good (Naked, for example) they were still plenty interesting. Unlike Byrne's last solo album.
Jeff Tweedy really should get Wilco back together. Or just release his stuff as a solo act.
If Creed reunited, they'd immediately take the mantel of "most hated band in the world" from Nickelback's shoulders.
All the bands I'd be most interested in seeing get back together (generally just as one-off or touring acts) have key members who are dead. Kind of sucks.

I loved 'Naked' when it came out, but that was only because I had heard no other Talking Heads album at the time. I still listen to it on occasion. It's definitely not a bad record, and at least half the tunes on it are actually quite good. It is better than True Stories I suppose, but it doesn't come close to being as good as any of the first 4 albums.
That said, yeah if you put it that way, I suppose a reunion wouldn't be a bad idea if it meant an album better than Byrne's solo stuff, especially that sleep inducing last album you mentioned. That record is awful, I don't care what critics say.

Frankly, I think that a lot of these reuniting bands shouldn't bother releasing new material, and just concentrate on touring and playing the songs that made them so great in the first place. More people will go see them that way, meaning they'll make more money, which is the point of the reunion to begin with, right?

I warned ya that Byrne's last record wasn't very good. Last I knew, the other musicians all wanted to do another Talking Heads album, but David was like "no fucking way." He needs to get off his high horse and realize that he makes better art with them than without.
Rocky and the Fragtones need to do a reunion show, too. I'm afraid that the drugs and booze that inevitably accompany success have gotten to them. The last time I saw 'em, Fragtone #3 was screaming at the Rockster, "What happened to you man! It used to be about the music!" This was in the middle of an acoustic ballad, and the fight that broke out on-stage didn't exactly fit the mood.

Supercar are the shit! Yeah, would love to see them live!
I'd love Dead Can Dance to reunite. Also- Cocteau Twins although that doesn't look likely. They were scheduled to appear on Coachella last year but Elizabeth Fraser got cold feet at the very last moment. Individually all the members of these bands made some great music but together they were just magic.

The backstage antics. Lordy those was good times.

I wish Mike Patton had an attention span. Or could at least do more than a few albums with any given band. Or that Mr. Bungle would just make another album. Fantomas is good and all. But I'd like another Disco Volante or California.

Patton likes to spread around- just saw a new John Zorn come in with Patton on vocals and a new Tomahawk's coming up too! I can pass on your remarks to Mike in two months' time- if all goes well Patton's doing an instore in my shop!

I fear that I'm in danger of resembling PEW here in starting one thread after another I don't ever want to hear you speak like that again Mr. Please refrain from insulting yourself Anywho, good thread idea man. Well, for anyone that knows me here, they know I'm a Kinks fanatic! So, having said that, I'd love to see the brothers Davies reunite with Mick Avorey (drums) and either Peter Quaife (original bass) or John Dalton (bass on Arthur through Misfits '69-'78). Dave had a stroke a few years back and is recovering nicely from what I gather. He and Ray supposedly still hate each other, but Ray was reported as teaching Dave how to play guitar again. Saying something like once he learns, I'm back to hating him. So of these guys can reunite, I'll be one happy camper.

Phil Collins and Peter Gabriel should get Genesis back together . . . and open for Roger Waters and David Gilmour getting Pink Floyd back together . . .
