Most of the time I think that things have their place in time and that once they're gone, they're gone, and that that's more or less as it "should" be. So as much as I would have liked The Rheostatics – to cite a very recent example – to keep making records until 2067, I don't much pine for any of these rock'n'roll reunions.
In 2007 does David Byrne have anything at all in common with the other former members Talking Heads anymore? Probably not. I'm dubious there'd be a whole lot of 'simpatico' in anything they'd create together at this point.
If happenstance produces a reunion, great, but most of the time it comes down to topping up someone's retirement fund.

Huh, I had no idea about this until just now.... from www.contactmusic.comVeteran rocker RAY DAVIES is planning a summer reunion with his brother and former THE KINKS bandmate DAVE DAVIES to discuss reforming the British band. Former frontman Ray admits his rocky relationship with his brother has improved since Dave suffered a stroke in summer 2004 and they are planning to write new songs together. Ray says, "My brother has been sick for the past year. but I'm going to get together with him and we're going to see if the music is still there. "There's got to be new music. We can't just play the old hits." Davies tells style magazine GQ, "If The Kinks want to have a meeting, get together and play music, and if we feel it's relevant to go in and make a record, we shall do it. "I do not want to do a golden-oldies tour, just there for nostalgia. We were never nostalgic, and I don't want us to do it in a sad way. "If we can't be relevant to the times, or at least our times, it's not worth doing."

I would like to say here here to Dead Can Dance. I know they did a sold out reunion tour last year, but they have declined to record anything new, which I think is a shame.

The Replacements should play a one-off reunion show. In my backyard. I'd invite all you guys, of course. And me and Tunes will duet on "Waitress in the Sky."

I couldn't see a Pink Floyd reunion. Yeah, there was Live8 but an album....naw,,,,I just don't think the chemestry would be there like one would hope/want.
A Replacements get-together probably wouldn't give me the results I'd want either. Too much time and 'growing older' I fear wouldn't deliver the bite of the Let It Be/Tim days that I'd be hankering for. And I AM a fan of All Shook Down and some of Paul's solo stuff but I'd somehow feel wary of a reunion.
Along this vein, anyone heard the new tracks that Black Sabbath recorded with Dio on the 'Greatest Hits' album recently released? I ask that mostly out of curiosity....hell, I think I'd rather hear new material recorded with him than burntup Ozzy any fuckin' day anyhow.

Oh come on, Don. It'd be awesome to have a 'mats reunion ... in my back yard. Actually, the yard isn't really that big, so we'd have to set up out in the cul de sac instead. And that would absolutely rock.
Or they could play a one-off gig in Westerberg's basement, just as long as I'm there to see/hear it.
