I used to listen to Zeppelin when I was a kid. I find them completely boring and unoriginal at this point, with very little of their catalogue holding up very well. Blues based rock is tiresome these days. So I guess that means I think they suck.
Plus Jimmy Page is the most over rated guitarist in the last 100 years.

OK, Melaun, while you're at it, start a "do the Smiths suck" thread. This is a really bad idea... Indeed. There will be blood shed.

I'm sorry, but I'm not sure what that has to do with fellating pigeons.

I dunno, Ken. I never owned any records by those hair metal guys either, but all that cheese is part of the story. So is Fred Zep for that matter. I hear ya, Drum, but IMO the story would've been better if we could've just edited out the bits I mentioned above. Of course, you'd lose Rush too, but I'm sure we can all agree that it would still serve the greater good. How anyone can fathom that it would still serve the greater good to lose RUSH is utterly beyond me.

The bottom line is everyone steals. Some more than others. At the end of the day though, Zep were the best thieves in rock [at the time], and the stuff they created on their own wasn't too shabby either. Excellent observation, Kool. I was going to say something about how "everybody steals", that rock music itself is fundamentally an act of theft, and for anyone to point fingers at a band like Zep on account of their having "stolen" r&b riffs or whatnot, well its plain disingenuousness, or two-faced at the very least. And your point about Zep being "the best thieves in rock", hell yeah, that says it all right there. I mean, we all can agree that pirates are the best, right ? Of course. And that's what true rock'n'rollers are akin to -- Pirates skimmin' the wild open waters and trawlin' the depths (of the past) for juicy, killer riffs they can put their own spin too. In that context, anyone who doesn't outright "steal" something worth stealing, what are they -? Plump little choir boys praying to their angels, I guess. *yawn*/ borrrrring (Actually, I still maintain there's "no originality", at least in a popular context [and we are talking about popular context here]). I mean, sure if you dig deep enough, I'll bet you can cite some truly "original" artists, but will they be mainstream (as Zep were/are)? I don't think so; every mainstream act we are citing here, whether in defense of or in attempts to "contrast" what Zeppelin did -- in the end, boil down to simply a matter of personal taste. I.e, there ain't one (Not The Boss, not No One) rock band or musician out there who you could say they didn't steal from someone or something. In other words - - any accusations of Zeppelin "stealing" music are entirely besides the point, and should be immediately retracted (before your hand gets bitten off;).

Led Zeppelin certainly do not suck. They did what they did very well dig it or not they had what's arguably THE best rhythm section in rock history. 80's metal would've happened with or without them. Holzman's just mad cause he could never tease his hair up like that.

These days i actually love hearing a cheesy motley crue song cranked up on a bar jukebox or something. It totally gives me nostalgia. Dr. Feelgood or Looks That Kill - shit, it's not epic art or anything but it's cheesy and fun. One of my favorite bars in SF, Kilowatt, was such an 80s throwback - it was pretty much always always always playing Motley Crue, Judas Priest, Iron Maiden, GNR, Faster Pussycat, Poison, etc etc - and it was always a complete blast. You'd hang out with these tattooed bikers singing along to Crue - what could possibly suck about that?? I've lost a lot of my punk rock contempt for that stuff, I guess. I mean I could still do without all the spinoff bands - the world didn't really need Great White and White Lion and Whitesnake (what's with all the "white" bands??) and Slaughter and all that crap I can barely remember anymore - but anyone who grew up in the 80s really should be able to find a fond place in their heart for Nikki Sixx and Mick Mars. Those guys are fucking CHARACTERS. That's all I'm sayin'.... Right on, Mary

I grew up with Zeppelin. They were part of the big-ass soundtrack to my teenage years. It's impossible for me to hate them or accuse them of sucking. Leave it to Adam to put it all perfectly into perspective in three short sentences. *golf claps*

Hating Led Zeppelin was a big part of my teenage years, and they've never given me a reason to revise that opinion. They fucking suck.
(Though I do agree that Bonham and Jones were a hell of a rythym section. But just like people wind up judging U2 by Bono and Edge, it's Plant and Page who made Led Zeppelin into the shite-fest that they were. IMHO of course).

So what's this about pigeons? Ryo's a leading expert on bukkake and he's trying to branch out for fear of being one-dimensional.

Is Zeppelin perfect? No
Those guys having an influence on 80s Hair Metal a bad thing? No on that either and I will tell you why. Fuck punk. Seriously. Fuck punk rockers and their santimonius bullshit about how much better they were than Sabbath, Rush, or Zeppelin. They fell into the same bloated pitfalls and if you think differently you have been lying to yourself for way too long.
I think punk bringing about pop/punk crap like Blink 182 and NOFX is way worse than anything from Motley Crue. What makes it worse is how horribly egotistical those guys are when it's just the same music without the leather pants and hair spray. Whatever.

Motley Crue's first two albums are better than anything Springsteen's done post-Tunnel Of Love. I for one am glad Zep inspired them. Oh, btw, as a kid I used to breed pigeons. Never felt the urge to check out their cocks though...
