Listened to the 'Singles' soundtrack last night - it's a pretty fookin' cool album. After all of this talk of Seattle 90's bands, thought it would be good to dust that soundtrack off from the vault.

way better than the movie....although the part where chris cornell walks up out of nowhere and starts nodding his head to the music coming from the car stereo is pretty cool.....

I liked that movie. Don't remember it much, just remember liking it. It was like a grunge version of Melrose Place.

I liked the movie as well, but I have always been a pretty big fan of Cameron Crowe.
I listened to that soundtrack as well this weekend and I realized a few things. The first is that after hearing Smashing Pumpkins' amazing psychedelic masterpiece "Drown", I will just never be into any sort of new Pumpkins record. That song is just amazing. The other thing I realized is after hearing Cornell's "Seasons", I would have liked to have seen his solo material go into something of that vein as well. He'd be the new Nick Drake if he did that. There is some seriously choice stuff on there.

What do y'all think of Ritual by Soundgarden? I love the riff. After listening to the song, I couldn't help but to think, call it what you will, grunge, alt rock, whatever, but that there is a metal song. I want to now go back and revisit some of my SG collection - it's been a while since I last listened.
I slam the Pumpkins cause I don't like Billy - but they do have some really amazing songs. IMO those first three albums are about as good as 90's rock gets. As for the later stuff, it aint my bag at all.

"Drown" is off of the Singles Soundtrack and the version that is on there is KILLER! Lots of feedback, delay, masterful Mitch Mitchell like drumming with the chorus being heavy but not metal-y. The version that is on their best of pissed me off because that part of the song isn't on there. Billy Corgan is a bastard.
Soundgarden's "Ritual" is a tough ass riff and it is totally METAL if you ask me. I considered Alice in Chains metal as well. They sounded like Seattle's version of Black Sabbath to me.

AIC is the only grunge band I actually consider metal.

Outside of a few tracks I don't think Facelift has held up all that well, it's pretty slight compared to Dirt.

I don't know....I feel like "Facelift" has aged well. I sometimes wonder if maybe it's because "alternative radio" is just filled with below average bands that have the same sound as Alice in Chains. Other times, I think you might be right.
"Dirt" is just awesome.

"It Ain't Like That Anymore" I think is the way my favorite song off of Facelift went. The riff for that song was just crunchy and killer.

Outside of a few tracks I don't think Facelift has held up all that well, it's pretty slight compared to Dirt. I kinda feel the same way, but I kinda feel that way about AIC in general. When I was a youngin', and all this grunge stuff was brand new, AIC and Nirvana were my bands. Wasn't too into PJ and SG initially. As the years passed, I started losing interest in AIC. I'll always have a soft spot for 'em, but I'm just not to into them anymore. Soundgarden to me however, sounds better with age. Their first few albums are excellent, and to me seems like they were the 'musicians' band of the lot. Their final album is a bit spotty, but it beats AIC's last album. thoRns, you said AIC was the only grunge band you'd consider metal - what about Soundgarden? They have a chunk of songs out there that tinker w/ metal. I kinda view the big 4 like this: AIC - gloomy/dark/heavy metal Soundgarden - arty/technical hard rock/metal Nirvana - punk Pearl Jam - classic rock
