2008 is the official year that Madonna is eligible to be inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, and from what I understand the actual nominees will be voted on this year. Should Madonna be a member of the class of 2008?
What is her major positive contribution to music? What is her best work?
Discuss.

Madoona definitely deserves a spot in the Hall Of Fame- no doubt that she has been one of the most influential artists of the last 25 years.

Yes, cause she's Madonna.
Hey, where did Matt go? Deleting his account like that... such a Pri-Madonna thing to do.

It was very prima donna, wasn't it? I've coined my own term though... prima theus. Slightly different than a prima donna, as it has more of a male context to it.
Hi Kool! Hi maarts! Welcome to my Madonna board where you can love, slag, or just completely ignore the topic of Madonna. I heard someone around here has their own forum where they have a hate Madonna section, but this one is a little more neutral. I really liked your votes, btw, but I'm sure some asshole will show up and ruin the Madonna love. It's okay though, I'm not whining.
Now I just have figure out what to do with these nasty holes in my hands...

I voted "she's Madonna" for one simple reason, Madonna extends outside of what people consider "pop." She's definitely "pop," but I think it transcends that.
I prefer Madonna the Living Legend... because Queens can be dethroned, but legends carry on forever.

They better induct her now while she still has a small shred of relevance. With each new album she loses more and more. Oh how I wish she would release something brilliant, but it looks far from likely.
Hey Matt!

I don't think Madonna should be in the HOF. She's talented, I respect her, and I even like a few of her songs. But, if she made it in the HOF, what does that imply? Will they have to let Whitney Houston in too? Mirah Carey - where does it end. Would they have to change the name to the Pop Music Hall of Fame to include ALL genres? Recently they let in Grand Master Flash - I love hip hop, especially old school shit, but I don't think hip-hop should be included in the rock hall - again, maybe they should change the name from R&R HOF to Pop HOF. Don't know, I'm just thinking about it as I write. What do y'all think?

I think "Rock & Roll" is a generic term for music anymore. All types of music. Music, makes the people, come together.

Hey Amp!!! How I have missed you so... it's really great to see you.
Did you know that Madge is working with Timbaland, JT, and Pharrell on her latest effort out in November? I don't know if you like any of their work, but I'm excited since I loved Justin's FS/LS... and I've always been a fan of Timbaland. Pharrell's work with N.E.R.D. was amazing.
I'm not sure if Madonna's as relevant in America, but she definitely is relevant in Europe. Not only that, she's relevant historically in America no matter if she continues to slide in relevance here.

Should Michael Jackson be in the Hall of Fame? He's already in with the Jackson 5 and as a solo artist. The Bee Gees are also in there. I never really thought of Aretha Franklin nor The Supremes as Rock and Roll music but they're in there. And yeah, you can expect Mariah Carey and Whitney Houston in the Hall of Fame, and it's not a precident Madonna would be setting... it's already taken place. If Michael Jackson is in, Madonna most definitely deserves to be in.

I hope for La Ciccone that Jan Wenner likes her, that's enough guarantee these days to get entry in the R&R-Hall Of Fame. T. After he screwed The Monkees out of last years' nominations and put Grandmaster Flash in the Hall instead he did bugger up the whole process and seeminlgy turn it into a dictatoriat. And even though the latter artist deserves fulll merit for his contribution to music it has opened up the whole can 'o worm-discussion about what the R&R-HOF stands for. So if Flash & MJ make it, so should Madonna who has been peerless in the 80s.

Lets face it - "awards" like these are never accurate. Look at the people who have stars on the walk of fame. I mean, Baba Wawa just got one and Destinys Child AND Ryan Seacrest already had one. How wrong is that? So much of it is politics, but yes, Madge deserves one.
Matt - that is exciting news about who she is working with - but sad at the same time that she needs to. Currently I am loving the new Kelly Clarkson. Theres a hole....inside of me!!!!!!

I'm more into the European vibe which has been present on her past several records, which is why, IMO, she's not as popular in America. I don't even know if this will help her. No matter what, whether JT or Timbaland or anyone else works on it, it will still be a Madonna record. No matter what producer is with her in the studio you can definitely feel Madonna's footprint. Timbaland said this record is up there with Justin's and everyone knows how much loved that!
