Yes, that new Voxtrot was a total lackluster let down. A lot of people in Austin just reacted in a very "whaaaat?" kind of way.

Speaking of Austin bands getting undeserving accolades, the new Okkervill river is such a derivative dialed in Arcade Fire rip off. Of course, I have never really understood the fascination with them but that's just me. However, hearing the new single last night on our College Station, I'm putting their new song as one of my worst for 2007.

Skvor, is there any decent radio in Houston or maybe a station out of Austin I might be able to pick up?

KTRU 91.7 Rice Radio. The Rice College Radio Station is just incredible. They play just a ton of really good stuff.
KPFT Pacifica 90.1 is a KILLER station.
Those two will keep you pretty busy.

Houston is actually pretty cool. When you get a chance, look up Sound Exchange in the phone book as I forget the address. That is a killer record store.

am i the only one in the world that didnt mind era vulgaris? granted, its by far their worst effort, but its still not near as bad as some of the other crap thats out right now. from what i understand, that record was an attempt at writing and recording an entire record in the studio, and it had some interesting results, and the songs i heard live sounded pretty good. sad though, indeed, that the best track wasnt even on the album.

One of the only things I can say for Era Vulgaris is that Sick, Sick, Sick is an enjoyable dirty rock single that isn't more than marginally worse than No One Knows and Little Sister... and that Julian Casablancas' screeching is top-notch.
Gimme Make It Wit Chu. Then gimme nothing more... or at the very least, a couple of napkins so that I can soak up the blood that splattered my eardrums and sent them a-soarin' and a-poppin'. SPLLLLAAAAAAAAAAAATTTTTTTTTT-ttttttt...
Nice icon, though. Only pedal my bandmate and I could afford, but DAMN, is it doing us well... and has it made more than its share of appearances.

Worst of List So Far for 2007 for me:
1. Modest Mouse-"We Sank..." whatever that nonsense title is 2. Queens of the Stone Age-Era Vulgaris 3. Explosions in the Sky-All Of A Sudden I Miss Everyone 4. Smashing Pumpkins-Zeitgeist 5. The Stooges-The Weirdness 6. The Good The Bad The Queen 7. Interpol 8. Voxtrot
My biggest disappointment so far has been the new MIA. It's not terrible, but it's horribly schticky and not what I was hoping for.

Don't mean to add to the bagging out of said band, but QOTSA kinda bored me to tears after Songs for the Deaf - the just didn't seem to have anything ggreat or new to bring to the table... haven't even bothered with Era Vulgaris...
I have had virtually no disappointments with albums i have bought this year, mainly because i hone and scope out my purchases rather carefully at present - don't have the kinda cash to waste on bad albums anymore, so if it looks risky, and I think I may not like it... I run a mile!
I have no doubt, however that this years worst album will be the new one by Australia's the Bumblebeez - put short: They suck. In a way that suckiness can't even describe. Will hear how sucky they are when I listen to their sucky CD on Friday! Maarts sent me a copy as a joke and I think I am going to come to a full understanding of his scathing review of it on Kats board!
I think i am a sucker for punishment...hehehehehehe!

I know I'm practically alone in this, but swear to god QOTSA never once did a damn thing for me since the get go. Yes I alone howl in despair for KYUSS. Fuck QOTSA and their vulgar era of shitrockpop. (Ok so they might've had one or two good songs from their first couple albums, but that's about it as far as I'm concerned)

"Songs for the Deaf" is a really good record, I think.
But it's pretty piss poor when you compare it to Kyuss, that's for sure. You are not alone for the despairing howl over that one.

I know I half-convinced myself that Modest Mouse album wasn't too bad, but I was wrong. It's the worst album of the year.
