28. The Knife- Silent ShoutNot since Leftfield Leftism has an album divided electronic fans so much. I know people who claim this as their favorite album of 2006 but as well as people who loathe it and love electronic music I think it's solid but it didn't change my world like say M83 No matter what I say about this album i always sound like i'm lukewarm on it which is closer to the truth The Knife made a great just play something I can Ignore John Cusack record or as I like to say People who study Aphex Twin's ambient vol.2 all that said i'm still confused and listen to it on a regular basis then it takes me away to a cold cold place Standout Track "Like A Pen"- maybe the only danceable track form a group that made DANCE MUSIC see Deep Cuts

27. Red Hot Chili Peppers- Stadium ArcadiumHave you listened to this lately? i'm suprised how well it holds up 2 disc albums tend become one cd mixes for the car or ipod you know the singles that kept the album revelant so i won't even talk about those. it's the little experiments that make the album for me Torture Me wouldn't seem out of place on CalifornicationWet Sand so may melodies a new soul to squeezeall the strenghts of the RHCP are displayed throughout the album especially John Frusciante who makes some of the mid tempo tracks that don't really do much but showcase his guitar skills Then you give him a chance on Especially in Michigan and boom off he goes much like the Dani California solo if you had to introduce somebody to RHCP i'm still suprised i would suggest this over BloodSugarSexMagikit very much defines who they are and where they are going next i tend to like the spacey jams that will never be peformed due to their endless greatest hits tours Standout Track "Make You feel Better"- if I had to define what RHCP music is this is exactly how it makes me feel

26. The Rapture- Pieces of the People We LoveNo DFA ,No Problem just another silly dance band? Not Quite we can rock too you know This was suppose to suck the hipsters were on schedule to yawn and complain Danger Mouse deserves very little credit The Rapture did it all themselves Dance Tracks -done Primal Scream Psycadelic Pop-Yeah it's here too Funky Bass Structing Music- Check but it's a better overall album than Echoes Echoes had better singles which does not make an album The sheer lunacy of "The Sound" which feels like the worst x-trip ever Down For So long which is the evil twin of staying alive on nyc street corner First Gear is the stupiest song ever recorded about my,my my mustang ford how did ford not use this? The Cure references end right here and guess what these aren't the singles, there pretty tight as well It's the Rapture's perfect album from start to finish whcih means spill a drink and let's dance Standout Track- " Live In Sunshine"- after the rave comes the comedown this is one of those is that the same band type songs?

25. Pearl Jam- s/tPearl Jam didn't need a comeback album folks hate to break it to you they never came to the mainstream the STREAM came to them after Nirvana faded out there was a void PJ was there You became a bigger fan than ever of them No code may have put the majority off didn't change their importance or their style It's been a while since rock radio wanted to play a new PJ (aren't we all a little tired of Evenflow/Better Man now?) Did anything have the fire and passion of Life Wasted or World Wide Suicide" on your local fm? Yeah they changed labels oooh they needed a hit you say BULLSHIT Does this album scream hit single I think not but Gone was the grown up version of Rear View Mirror. Inside Job made me realize just how special PJ is at closing albums with the strongest set of songs since Yield back ended Poltical Yes but more importantly Powerful It can move you and rock you at the same time but if you been with them since when Ten came out (i was in my first year in middle school, they spoke to me more than Nirvana did) you already knew all this Don't call it a comeback,Eddie wouldn't Standout Track- "Come Back"- This was the newest trick in Pj's neverending arsenal a soul ballad that tugs right on you but i'll ask you do you it's coincedence it follows Army Reserve?

No kidding! Patten, it's so good to see you around here.
While "Stadium Arcadium" isn't a bad record at all, I think more than anything Frusciante OWNS that record. The guitar on that album is unbelievable.

Thanks guys
nice to be missed **hi fives**
i gotta lot of free time @ work before vacation to knock this 2006 list then i'll roll out my 2007 after the holidays which to be honest i find all the best of 2007 lists by the magz/blogs to be very predictable and kinda boring

24. Beck- The InformationAllow me to ask one of those stupid music journalist questions Is Beck Really THIS ERA'S BOB DYLAN? I know that seems silly but go with me since 1991 has any other solo artist done more of a diverse catalog? name any style of music they both have at least attempted their own version. Beck imo has reached a level few get to where if you compare this song to that song he's already made something simular to that 3 yrs ago on a different themed sounding record The biggest problem with my comparsion is where Bob Dylan's work tends to be a commentary on the politcial state of the world. Beck tends to be more of a student of the human condition and writes from a more personal viewpoint of course you could point out that Sea Change is Beck's Blood On The Tracksso where does that leave the information it's another beck album in the vein of Guero and Mutations Beck adds a couple more classics to his legacy as your funky cool uncle "Think I'm In Love"/ "Nausea"Beck continues to be the most humble and talented male solo artist working that matters i said it during my 2005 Guero review Beck is the music equivalent of Tom Brady He just delivers every time and can be easily taken for granted Standout Track- "Nausea"- simple accoustic guitar ditty thru the typical beck window of abstract sound and lyrics another classic

Totally agreed with the Dylan comparison with Beck. I think it's spot on.
I agree with you on the 2007 lists being predictable as well. The Pitchfork list I thought wasn't terrible, but they championed some mediocre albums in my opinion.

23. Gnarls Barkley- St. ElsewhereEvery year one album gets more hype and praise then it really deserves based on one killler single this was that album in 2006 look i really like this album, but Danger Mouse and Cee-lo both have made classic make you bug out shit before so why were the masses so suprised it's biggest strength was it sounds like nothing else in 2006 so therefore most of the let"s be really cool and call it the best album of year had not really paid attention to Goodie Mob/Gorrilaz production on Demon Dayz. every song is a piece of pro-tool projected funk Go Go Gadget Gospel couldn't be more crammed with sound effects Just A Thought was a classic Cee-Lo mediatation on death this time by way of the party before a suicide and then there was Crazy the problem with a song so massive is you need a break after about a month which tends to shortchange the album but a year later it's hard to deny it's one of the best songs of the decade and not to mention a amazing music video. It's tough to not associate that one song with the album's value i guess although my favorite track is "The Last Time" i'm just silly like that i guess Standout Track- " The Last Time"- why it just makes me smile and feel good every time i hear it that's all ;D

22. Eagels of Death Metal- Death By Sexy Good Evening Ladies and Gentlemen We Are Eagels of Death Metal and We Love You So Hard Before We Play Our First Song Fellas Let's Hear For The Ladies All Those Death By Sexy Babies Being Made Tonight We Just Wanna Say We Love You So Hard 1,2,3 (song begins)- This is how a Eagels of Death Metal Live Show Sounds before they decide to play and in between... you know banter It's silly,it's nothing but what the title says SEXY Incredibly infectious the vibe won't leave like a really good buzz if you can't have a good time while listening or dancing to this I really don't think you and I will get along. Take an old 50's sock hop record and then speed it up past the levels of even urge overkill or rev. horton heat add nothing but dirty puns and comeons and you got my version of Motley Crue Disposable rock that stays in your pysche on a bad day that pulls you out of your mood If you ever wanted to a excuse to explode down a flithy dangeorus sexual highway into new territory this will motivate you oh and the best album cover of 2006 i love the ladies but let's hear it for Eagles of Death Metal Standout Track "Don't Speak" (I came to make a BANG!!)-Have you ever just dominated a person sexually not in a criminal way but that fun take command shut up style you could play this while you do it

21. TIE Boris- Pink Band Of Horses- Everything All The TimeBoth these album are Top 20 worthy and I struggled with leaving them out but so be it Boris are the band I expect to see used in Tarintino flims loud abrasive pure violence and the only new band i see giving System of a Down a run for most WHAT THE FUCK Moments on a album Pink was a hard album not to use headphones for dreamy and sweet than an amp gives away to hellish nightmere of sound and lyrics where again I go WHAT THE FUCK are they saying This and one other album upcoming on my list were the hardest to digest it's not easy to listen the whole thing in one sitting You need small doses say like listening to Lighting Bolt Just Abondoned My-Self is an 18 minute epic where it sucks every ounce of the instruments juice that afterward i swear i bet they never played the same again. But what's really special about Boris is.. well I really don't Know yet every listen feels like a brand new album to me I saw them play earlier in 07 people were doing the Wayne's World we're not worthy chant after the show WHAT THE FUCK Band of Horses are not My Morning Jacket Yes the singers sound simular yes stoners really like both bands but BOH are to MMJ as I am to writting reviews i've been told i don't give opinons or viewpoints I give proclamations and make statements the correct comparsion is a little band called Built To Spill see how silly i am The Funeral is the sound of NOW it's epic sweeping and gorgeous why can't more bands make tracks like this I always picture a global enviorment catastrophe in progress when i hear the bridge and yet it feels relaxing Monsters/Great Salt Lake follow the same pattern of a giant roar your so locked in to the whole album even a stupid title like Weed Song creates an atmosphere of calm before the storm There Really GOOD but so is MMJ but there no Built To Spill I couldn't help it i was free flowing to this album's vibe when i typed this Standout- see above

Top 20 almost there 20. Junior Boys- So This Is GoodbyeIf you have yet to experience a Junior Boys album while driving in the early morning or just relaxing wherever your space is. It's a simple pleasure "First Time" is essential junior boys take a deep bass slow it to a baby crawling on the stairs, throw in some keys and sing about the first and last time a sexual encounter takes place and that's really the big secret about Junior Boys every song involves Sex that's either going away or has ended the music tends to be so pleasant and chill you don't pay attention to the actual lyrics because your distracted by how smooth or robotic at times the vocals invade check it When no one cares and the phone never rings the nights are endless things
you're like a child that cries and no one heeds the crying you're like a star that dies and seems to keep on dying
when no one cares you count souvenirs and they glisten with your tears
you can't believe a love like hers could come from someone new
when no one cares but you when no one cares but you when no one cares but you-"When No One Cares""In The Morning" is the best dance song ever about a man telling a girl she's too young he lays out how it's all going to go down and then asks her this And in the morning would you tell me that it's over? You think that you'd do better To stick with someone older Because we're too young Depeche Mode for the laptop generation of kids dancing by themselves in their bedroom or maybe with a stranger just for the night Standout Track- "In The Morning"- the happiest sounding dance song you never knew was about a one night stand especially the funky synths break the last 45 seconds

19. Mellowdrone- BoxThis was the album of 2006 i would pass along to all my friends after a friend of mine introduced it to me A band whose lead singer sounds like Bono if he hung out at S/M chambers( oh there is song called Beautiful Day that sound nothing near u2) . 2 things will stick out when you hear this 1.No song sounds exactly alike,i really mean that electro funk/folk songs/blistering fuzzed out rock tracks they left nothing behind during recording it would seem which gives this a pure energy each time you play it few albums can replicate,i couldn't even try to tell you what you could compare them to but they just succeed at every song on this their DEBUT(2 ep's prior) 2. The word fuck is used in every song as a lyrical joke even where it doesn't belong it gets worked in as almost an inside joke between you the listener and the band I'll just let the music speak for itself youtube.com/watch?v=SeI3DXu7hHo&feature=relatedyoutube.com/watch?v=BJxLp8RDoXE&feature=relatedwww.youtube.com/watch?v=S_a8J1bFzDs&feature=relatedwww.youtube.com/watch?v=KgxQKY_Y0xI&NR=1now you can make up your own mind, but i'd keep my eye on this one, I expect you'll be hearing about them soon enough Standout Track "Fuck It Man"-- if you know a happier throw up your hands when your pissed that a relationship didn't work out song I'd like to hear it
