Come On Pilgrim was an EP, by the way- the question was Debut Albums!
Jenn's mention of Little Earthquakes was spot-on! As well as Don's list.

You know, a few of the ones I put up I debated about....even like U2 and Springsteen. How realized was Boy when you consided War being around the corner? Springsteen too morphed away from the early Dylan sound and leapt away to greater things IMO --- but that debut of his has some amazing songwriting on it.
Some I put up as I felt they were time marks in music too -- like Oasis helping to usher in the Brit-rock sound, Vaughn rebirthing the blues, Van Halen exploding a hardrock bravado......

Huh? No "I Fought Pirahnas"? Why? That's my favorite song on the debut.

How realized was Boy when you consided War being around the corner? You know, I follow this train of thought to a degree because War IS a much better album than Boy, but at the same time I believe "An Cat Dubh/Into the Heart" is a better song than any other on the first three albums combined. That song is just amazing.

gawd I can't tell you how many times I played that particular cut when the album came out! "I Will Follow" was the biggest standout IMO for the record and I think that tune in particular was one that started the eyebrows to raise that this was a band to watch.
Tip of the hat to Matt for pointing out the obvious with Madonna's debut --- now THAT was the begining wakeup call not only for pop music at the time but fashion, girl-power, and SEX-power all at the same time!
