The whole "one or many threads" question becomes moot, when you consider that each post is its own thread, after a fashion.
It's just directories within directories; folders within folders.
I.e chrisfan, a new "thread" is really just a more organized way of allocating the various subject matters that fell under the original umbrella anyhow.
You can't see that though, huh.

Ask Ndy. He knows all about the true message board philosophy. YOu create a new thread for whatever topic arises. Once that topic is over, that thread's dead, Fred.

I.E, a Far more efficient way to keep a CE topic going, is to have as many threads under it as possible. When a topic under CE dies, no one will bother posting under that particular thread. It's pretty easy to grasp, Chrisfan.

Well, it was never that way at the old RS and I don't recall there being this problem there.

I've got to step out for awhile, but before I go: If the Castaways board is histrory by the time I get back, I love you all, and hope you'll stay in touch. My e-mail is jackory69@yahoo.com so write it down and let me know how you're doing. I can also be found at my blogs, so why not bookmark them while you've got a chance?

Well, it was never that way at the old RS and I don't recall there being this problem there. I agree. We should emulate the original format at RS as much as possible. That means no more posting images of any kind and no more moderators. Also no more polls. And we have to have ghost posts. And board bombings.

Well, it was never that way at the old RS and I don't recall there being this problem there. The old RS boards were a completely, COMPLETELY different set-up. They were built for long, sprawling, mutating discussions. While that's practical on Proboards with most of our topics, it's not going to work in a beast like this. Unlike the RS boards, these boards weren't created for these long, sprawling discussions, hence the way they malfunction after so many pages. And look what happened to the old RS boards. They're a terrible example, especially CE. That place was mutilated and completely useless by the time boards were removed.

Luke, based on the discussions that were happening on the boards, this makes absolutely no sense whatsoever. As an example - on the CE - actual CE board, which was intended last night to be the board for CE, there was a discussion started about Cindy Sheehan, and the status of the war. Then today, Thorn starts a seaprate thread about ... Cindy Sheehan and the war in Iraq. Why exactly does the format here make sense to have TWO seaparate threads about exactly the same thing?

If you have multiple threads, then ditch one of them. Refer them to the original thread, and be done with it.
However, I think that the bit with thorny's board conflicting with the CE- Actual News board isn't anyone's fault, but it's a consequence of the mess that things are in right now.
So far, the most practical solution I've heard is to sticky Current Events at the top of the board (you can sticky here, right?), and let everyone else just flow below it. If a topic has nothing to do with current events, either relocate it or delete it. It works for thousands upon thousands of other boards.

Referring to the original thread - yes, I did that. See the uproar? Relocating and deleting - yeah, that doesn't elicit much of a response either. Your solutions are good ones - now just sell them to the rest of the group.
