When you say "you" "bitch and moan" about bannings, you're not talking about me, right? Or is this how you thought I was one of the main perpetrators of Comic Events?
And yes I know Clubber did that, he certainly didn't ask. As for whether or not I need to like anyone for someone to post there, they don't. I can think of two people who post there now that I don't care much for. I don't ban them and I won't just because of that. Because other people DO like them, they ARE a part of the Clique, which is implied in the damn board title. It's not my clique, it's our clique.
As for new members, Castaway members even, those happen all the time. Adam joined recently, PC joined recently, Jesus was an old convert last year...we're not closed to new members, but the integrity of the group is the most important part, no matter what.
You and I both know it's not in your interests to be a part of our group and we're both better off for it. So that's all there is to it.

But you said earlier that you are only open to a certain select few, or clique or whatever you want to call it. If you weren't bitching about the bannings then what was your purpose of the Shin for CE moderator thread? And the whole reverend Pissin deal? This is all I am saying.

We may disagree on just about everything, but NF said a mouthful here. Talk about irony. Yes, the irony is unbelievable.

It was a joke but everyone came over here from shin's board in some sort of protest, once again. JUST like they did when Knight used my old username and got banned.
Yet the very same moderator powers are indeed used on the "clique" board.
SEE?
More Irony

And not to change the subject but I am indeed one happy camper right now! I changed my major to History with a minor in Folklore. I am also taking the archeaology and anthropology courses. I will need 4 language courses for this major and also I plan on taking geology for one of my science electives. COOL!

How is it ironic? The purpose of Castaways is not the same as Neil. Neil is not intended to be an open, forgiving forum. This is. You can take a shit in the toilet but you can't in the shower. Nothing ironic about that.

And for the record, I was going to end up making those boards anyway. There was a need even at the beginning.

Exactly what are you saying shin? That this board is the toilet but your precious board is the shower? WTF is wrong with you?
You guys are constantly complaining about the conservative posters being so "elite"......
MY POINT HAS BEEN MADE. PERIOD.

What kind of classes do you take for a minor in folklore? and do you have any particular interest in any one area of history?

The minor in Folklore is 18 credit hours and I think one is like intro to folklore, one is folklore and song, and then you have a choice between African American or Native American Folklore and I can't recall the other few in the group. This is a very hard question as to what area of history I am interested in. I love Native American history as well as ancient world history, and medieval history. But these classes are all part of the major so this is going to be very interesting indeed. I just love history in general and archeaology is fascinating, so much to learn!

I had a hard time deciding between history and political science for my minor, but I eneded up with poli sci. Ken, did you have a particular area of interest in your history studies?

I find medieval history to be fascinating, and still remember a bunch of stuff from those classes. I picked a lot of my history courses by instructor: i.e., I took classes from profs I liked. So I wound up taking a class on pre-modern Africa b/c of the prof, and just loved it. I feel like we barely scratched the surface, but it was fascinating. I also took a great course on America in the Cold War which was one of the most enjoyable classes I've ever taken.
As far as anthro goes ... my biggest interest was actually in Bronze Age Greece and Crete (and from there the entire Eastern Mediterranean), but UTEP didn't have anyone who knew a damn thing about those subjects. I did do a couple of independant studies on those topics, which was a lot of fun. So after I completed my basic archeology courses, I took a bunch of cultural anthro classes to finish up my degree. We had/have a lot of good classes on contemporary Mexico, and we had (long since gone) a great social theory instructor, who got me heavily into looking at pop culture through an academic lense. I can honestly say that my social theory class changed the way I look at the world, and my life. I basically look at the world as an anthropologist, no matter what I do for a living. Even my legal practice is informed by my anthro background.
I would have loved to have been able to take some comparative myth classes, that sort of thing, but UTEP just didn't have the right faculty for it.

I also took some political theory classes, out of interest rather than necessity. Again, I thought the prof was great, and I was extremely interested in the subject matter. That has also served me well in the decade since I graduated.
