Well, most likely all of our wonderful lists (and the hours that went into making them) are gone forever, but maybe, just maybe, we can turn these new digs into as great a place as the old place was shaping up to be. So where were we? Best albums by year, right? Hopefully the bunch of you who already gave their lists have them filed away somewhere and didn't lose them in the abyss...

Oh, and for those that never came across the original incarnation of this board, it's just a place where people come up with a list topic, everyone who chooses provided their take on the topic, and after a while someone composites a final list.
Though it was a young board (I believe just short of 7000 posts new), we had already compiled a best albums of all time list, a best songs of all time list, best albums by country, best artists, best movies, and a handful of others. Most had "final" drafts, though some went unscored.
All in all, it was a great exercise in music knowledge and opinion, and a great place to find out about new music.

I think my year-by-year list was probably the last post on the Project board because the first link I clicked on afterwards took me to that ‘new and improved boards’ notice. Luckily, I did save mine. I’m going to resist the impulse to make more changes, so here it is as posted the other night:

I didn't keep any of my own lists, which is poor planning / saving on my part, but perhaps if the poster who compiled the general lists could return them to this board, at least all of the work from the other RS.com project board wouldn't be lost... just my casual suggestion...

Drum, liked your list and surprised to see Toris FTCH making the grade. I believe critically its one of her most dismissed works. As much as I love Scarletts Walk, its FTCH that will probably always be my fave Tori cd. There is something going on there that someone like me can't quite put their finger on, but its magical and endearing and all too unforgetable.

Thanks, Amp. It never seemed that FTCH was so much critically dismissed to me as highly contentious with her original fanbase. I've seen some glowing reviews of the record and a lot of people seem to really like it. On the other hand, the people who didn't like it, REALLY didn't like it and I think she even lost some of her original core fans with it, or at least it was the beginning of that. Some people just didn't like the full band sound. I think it's a really great rock record, in the old school album sense, but done with a completely modern musical vocabulary and I don't think she sacrificed her individuality at all, the way some of her old line fans seemed to think at the time.

Dolly now posting under Jesus' name??? DollyLooksLikeJesus indeed!
I possobly couldn't make a list like you, Doc! I'd probably have to sacrifice too many great albums to come with something halfdecent and probably most if the stuff no one knows....

I'm going to wait for a new project . I didn't copy my year by year, and it was way too hard to do again.
Cool list btw Doc.

Well, if year by year is not for everyone, how about a little Q&A in the best North Poll/Random Ten-style?
* Which song/piece of music do you recollect very vividly from your youth? * Which song always puts you in a good mood when you hear it? * Which song brings you closest to tears? * What song you don't want to hear ever again? * Which song do you associate with the ultimate summer feeling? * Favourite airguitar-song? Even air-drums or air-keyboard..... * What song/album which generally is being lauded on the RS-Boards is in your view highly overrated? * William Hung's in the final of American Idol- which song would you want him to sing? * What song do you always sing in the bathroom? * The ultimate song to have sex to is....? * The song that should be played when you are being buried/cremated and represents your life completely....

OK, I'll start on this one...please follow me?
* Which song/piece of music do you recollect very vividly from your youth? A song called Mama Loo by Les Humphries Singers. Allegedly I baulked that for hours at the age of two...
* Which song always puts you in a good mood when you hear it? Probably something like There Is a Light That Never Goes Out by The Smiths. Beacuse it's such a sweet 'n sour-song
* Which song brings you closest to tears? Sigur Ros- track 3 from ( ) has proven to be very effectively reducing me to pulp, especially after some hard times last year.
* What song don't you want to hear ever again? That Eamon-song. It's crap.
* Which song do you associate with the ultimate summer feeling? Strangely enough- The Ballad Of Lucy Jordan by Marianne Faithfull- it's all about the line '...ride in Paris in a sportscar with the warm wind in [her] my hair...'
* Favourite airguitar-song? Even air-drums or air-keyboard..... The ultimate airdrum-song- the final part of Will We Survive by Swans! Air-guitar- any Accadecca will do nicely, thank you
* What song/album which generally is being lauded on the RS-Boards is in your view highly overrated? Eh...I'm gonna get hung for this, but Wilco...I started out liking Yankee Hotel Foxtrot very much, but it sort of went off for me...
* William Hung's in the final of American Idol- which song would you want him to sing? I Wanna Be Your Dog...or a good G.G. Allin-medley!
* What song do you always sing in the bathroom? Usually something cheesy that sticks in my mind when my alarmradio goes off, which, with the station I have on it, usually ends up with some Aussie rock from the 70s or 80s (this morning it was Goanna with Solid Rock)
* The ultimate song to have sex to is....? Slayer- Angel Of Death....nah, just kidding. Massive Attack-Blue lines is a very nice album...so Unfinished Sympathy I choose.
* The song that should be played when you are being buried/cremated and represents your life completely.... A tie between Talk Talk-Wealth and Goodbye My Friend by Karla Bonoff.
