Well here's a massive fucking endeavour that gives new meaning t the concept of procrastination. As promised, this is my list of best movies, year by year. I'm beginning in the 1940s (1941, to be specific...I can't think of any 1940 movie I've seen, or at least liked). Unlike with music my knowledge of film isn't nearly as comprehensive so there are some years I'm just leaving out entirely, especially in the earlier decades.... but here we go...
1941: The Maltese Falcon 1942: Casablanca 1943: I Walked With a Zombie 1944: Double Indemnity 1945: Spellbound 1946: Gilda 1947: Out of the Past 1948: ?? 1949: The Third Man 1950: Sunset Boulevard 1951: Strangers on a Train 1952: High Noon 1953: ?? 1954: Rear Window 1955: Night of the Hunter 1956: The Searchers 1957: The Seventh Seal 1958: Vertigo 1959: Some Like It Hot 1960: Psycho 1961: ?? 1962: The Manchurian Candidate 1963: The Birds 1964: Dr. Strangelove 1965: The Battle of Algiers 1966: ?? 1967: Bonnie and Clyde 1968: Rosemary's Baby 1969: Midnight Cowboy 1970: A Clockwork Orange 1971: The Last Picture Show 1972: The Godfather 1973: The Exorcist 1974: Chinatown 1975: Dog Day Afternoon 1976: Network 1977: Annie Hall 1978: Days of Heaven 1979: Apocalypse Now 1980: The Shining 1981: Raiders of the Lost Ark 1982: Blade Runner 1983: The Killing Fields 1984: Blood Simple 1985: Brazil 1986: Blue Velvet 1987: Wings of Desire 1988: Die Hard 1989: Heathers 1990: Edward Scissorhands 1991: Thelma and Louise 1992: Reservoir Dogs 1993: Schindler's List 1994: Pulp Fiction 1995: 12 Monkeys 1996: Welcome to the Dollhouse 1997: The Ice Storm 1998: The Big Lebowski 1999: Boys Don't Cry 2000: Almost Famous 2001: Mulholland Drive 2002: Y Tu Mama Tambien 2003: LOTR 3: Return of the King
Phew. Holy shit. I've seen way too many movies. I can't believe how few blank spaces I needed.
Cheers, M

"I've never done good things/I've never done bad things I never did anything out of the blue. Want an axe to break the ice, want to come down right now. Ashes to ashes, funk to funky, we know Major Tom's a junkie. Strung out in heaven's high, hitting an all time low."
I love Bowie, and that song, but somehow I don't think that's quite what I want played at my funderal. Maybe Beat Surrender by the Jam instead. :-)

ah kenneth, beat surrender is a good one..though I gotta be buried with PunkChick and have Ashes to Ashes resouding in the creamaterium (geez, the way I spelled that word it seems like kinda porno phenomenon.....but you all know me, I never get sexually suggestive or into inuendo!!!!)............anywho, if I was to pick a song from the Jam to "die" with it would be Going Underground.......seems somewhat appropriate!!!

OK, straw, I'll bite...please clearly (with appropriate citations) enumerate in excruciating detail why you, a true dyed=in-the=wool punker find London Calling over-rated...................appalled, I am!!! Its damned hard, I'll tell you. But I know that the first 2 LPs are better, the first 2 LPs had the "true punk" sound, and the first 2 LPs did not borrow from the Members....yep Nicky Tesco was doing the reggae infused punk before The Clash and in fact released At The Chelsea Nightclub before London Calling. Honestly I only rate London Calling a distant third best from The Clash, behind Rope and The Clash.....I believe you've been hoodwinked by the "press" this album continues to get....its not the definitive punk album...not even close..Listen to those first two albums and you can still hear the magic from before the press went to their heads... Don't get me wrong..I'm not bagging London Calling..I'm just saying that around here it gets a degree of veneration I don't think it warrants... oh and what is the definitive punk album...."Bollocks" of course!!!
