Oooh, christianity. Messy...
But yeah, what about the baby brother I had that died? Does he automatically go to heaven? Or hell? Or are we going to get into reincarnation with this?
Heaven, hell, god, satan. Christianity should be taken with a healthy recognization of its metaphores. "God" and "Satan" help the closed-minded understand abstract concepts that are necessary to deal with in one's mind. It's a literal, straight-forward answer for life as it is, plus it keeps people in line with fear and a sense of worthwhileness (God's love). There's nothing wrong with any religion, really. They just have to be recognized as simplified masks for what is probably an ultimately incomprehendable reality. Which most people are uncomfortable with facing. Religions like Christianity are safe mental shelters for those willing to settle.

i pretty much agree with the both of you (rit, samples)... just didn't want to say anything.
i heard someone a week or two ago say we should have religious laws, because this country was "founded on religion". the truth of the matter is the united states was founded as a SECULAR society. if you look at the one dollar bill and know... latin, i think it is, it says something on it like "the first secular society". something to that effect, though i don't think those are the correct words.
what we have is freedom of religion, meaning we have the right to believe anything we want spiritually (well, almost anything...). this also means we must accept islam and whatever else as religions welcome in america.

fact is, crazy people kill other people who do not share their beliefs, muslim or christian. Hmmm, is that so? The denial. How many Christians have been killing in the name of Christ in comparison to Muslims in the last, let's say 5, years? Care to elaborate? The "Christians are just as bad" crowd is among us. You would love for that to be true, I suspect. The "it's not Islam that's the problem, it's fundamentalism of every form" crowd is here. You guys are so original. Allow me to introduce you to the reality that you seem to turn a deaf ear to: radical Islam is a global threat that is killing people every day today. Forget about a thousand years ago and the fact that people wore crosses while doing treacherous things. Let's look at today. You honestly think that church down the road poses a more serious threat to your physical safety than an uprising of millions who are willing to blow themselves up and kill as many people as possible that live in "The Great Satan"? Wake the hell up!!!! To compare the modern Christian fundamentalist with the modern "Jihad" Muslim is nothing short of hateful. I will conclude by saying I know a Muslim and she is very nice. However, I believe she is ignorant as to what her religion teaches.

drawing the line is always the trickiest part. okay, so of course we want to frown upon the faction of islam that promotes terrorism on the US. how can we say no to those dudes yet still maintain constitutional integrity? or take cults. just because most people in america see cults as sick/wrong doesnt mean we have any right to make them illegal. the truth is, america isn't actually a free country. we may have a hell of a lot more perks than most countries, but our "freedom" has definite limits and checks. a free country would self-destruct. i still think ideally we SHOULD be a totally free country but then i also would love to see us self-destruct..

"God" and "Satan" help the closed-minded understand abstract concepts that are necessary to deal with in one's mind.Oh reeeeeaaaaaaaaaalllllllllllyyyyyy?? And one's mind reaches it's ultimate futility to believe that nothing is greater than itself.

Melon – you feel that muslims are wrong and dangerous. Muslims feel that you are wrong and dangerous. The only difference between extreme fundamental islam and extreme fundamental christianity is your method of confronting each other. Muslims are willing to die for what they believe is right and be proactive about it. Let’s leave Right and Wrong out of this, that’s all perspective. Is it just me that thinks perhaps islam is a more dedicated, stronger religion than yours?
Sorry, i just like arguing. I could turn around and argue the other side of the argument. I want people to open their minds.

i agree with Samples. i don't really know what Melon was trying to say with this:
..except maybe that he tried to look over the horizon once and got mighty confused.

melon, all you have is your mind. you can put god and satan in it and make things simpler to understand. or you can leave it open and never really understand. i happen to believe the latter takes a stronger person.

My only guess here is that you simply haven't met a single devoted Christian in your life. I'll explain in the next post.
